๐Ÿถ PUPPY PARENTHOOD: The "Is This Normal?!" Q&A ๐Ÿพ
Did you just bring home a new four-legged roommate? Are you currently wondering if you adopted a puppy or a tiny, furry land shark? ๐Ÿฆˆ Don't panic!

Weโ€™ve rounded up the most-asked questions to help you survive (and enjoy!) those first few months.

Q - When can I take my puppy outside?
A - 2 weeks after their final puppy vaccination

Q - How can I socialise my puppy if they cant go outside?
A - by focusing on safe controlled area's, puppies can go outside without the need of contact. Some of our favourite recommendations are sitting in the boot in a light busy area to observe and smell or indoor playdates with vaccinated dogs.

Q - How long should my puppy sleep for?
A - roughly 18-20 hours per day

Q - My puppy hiccups a lot
A - hiccups are normal for puppies, some do more than others. It can be caused by eating too fast, excitement or tiredness.

Q - what should I give for my puppy in terms of flea/tick/worming
A - contact the clinic for recommendations are they are able to be suited to what works best for you and your pup

Q - Can I change my puppies diet from what the breeder gave
A - It's important to slowly change the diet over 1-2 weeks to prevent stomach upset, the same goes with treats slow introductions to avoid upset.

Confirming and Attending appointments.

People are busy, life gets in the way and sometimes emergencies pop up, trust us we totally get it!

For our clinic to continue operating smoothly, allowing us the time to provide focused attention to each of our precious patients and their families, we ask that you;
- Take the (very short) time to answer our automated confirmation text with a Yes or No.
- If you need to cancel your appointment and it is within the hour please call the clinic, 0249877459.
- If you are running late to your appointment please call ahead.
- Please answer or return our phone call if we contact you regarding an appointment.

Knowing that appointments are going to be attended as planned helps us forecast staffing, inventory, and supply needs for the day.

Our efficient scheduling allows for an emergency buffer; dedicated slots for urgent cases without disrupting the care of other patients.

We are currently booked solidly with very little wiggle room, and a long cancellation list of people needing appointments. If we all do our part we can ensure that those pets that are really needing to see the Vet can do so.

A fire in our local area saw this male ringtail possum temporarily displaced from his home habitat.
Panicked, singed and exhausted he was found by a member of the public trying to seek shelter in the long grass.
The possum spent a night at our hospital, to ensure smoke inhalation didn't turn into respiratory problems. He luckily didn't suffer skin burns, only minor singing of his fur and whiskers.
He was released back to his habitat once the fire was controlled, skedaddling back up into a big gum tree that had been spared from the blaze.

Some pets do not โ€˜approveโ€™ of professional grooming.

Just like our latest friend, Harlo, many pets come into our clinics to get a groom under sedation, where our highly trained staff can monitor the sedation procedure.

For Harlo, pre-bloodwork was checked (to ensure the safety of administering a sedation), and Harlo was also treated to some Feliway which mimics natural pheromones that cats love, to keep him calm and make his stay as comfortable as possible.

Harlo is now feeling fresh!

New wheels for Curtis ๐Ÿš—

This beautiful boy, Curtis, has IMHA (Immune Mediated Haemolytic Anemia) and recently developed a sore leg. To make things a bit better for this trooper, his owner has created a pretty nifty buggy for him to get around. Curtis is one of our patients at PETstock VET Midland, and we're so glad to help take care of this wonderful dog.

Do you know what IMHA is? It's a disease where the body's immune system destroys its own red blood cells. This often leads to severe anemia and poor oxygen delivery to multiple organs, such as the kidneys, liver and brain. Treatment of this disease can be different depending on the patient, but in some cases, patients will require blood transfusions to replace red blood cells, combined with immunosuppressive therapy. You also have to limit exercise for these patients, which is why having a buggy will really help Curtis. Wishing all the best to our mate โ™ฅ๏ธ

"The service (and staff) from PETstock VET Rouse Hill was above and beyond. My puppy went into the clinic, as he was not feeling himself, and it was found he had eaten rocks, plus other items from around the yard. He was given emergency surgery to get it all out and is now at home (finally) and resting up. The staff showed so much care and love for our boy, and I just can't thank them enough." - Jas

Another amazing result from our PETstock VET team. We're so happy Tourmo is doing well and recovering from his surgery.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Remember, if you ever feel like your dog is feeling unwell, don't hesitate to contact your local PETstock VET.
