🦆 If you go to Lake Weeroona you may notice some adorable little ducklings around 😍

🛑 Please - do not approach them!! ✋️

Their parents are trying to keep them safe!
Humans or pets getting too close can cause unnecessary stress!
In some cases, the parents may become defensive, attempt to attack, or even abandon the ducklings 😞

Some important things to remember:
- Keep a good distance away from them!
- If you wish to take a closer picture - zoom in rather than approaching them!
- Keep pets and children away from them! 🙅‍♀️
- Do not feed them - this can cause them to have a false sense of security around humans and pets as well as cause a dietary upset!

So while they are adorable, please admire from afar!

If you’re concerned about the ducklings or believe they may be injured or in danger, please contact a wildlife rescue organisation for advice rather than approaching them yourself 🙂

🐝 Bee Stings 🐝

It's the beautiful time of year where the flowers are blooming and the bees are working hard pollinating the flowers 🌸

Unfortunately while the bees are busy working, an unsuspecting nose can cause the bees to be startled and sting the pet!
Dogs are naturally curious, and unfortunately, that can sometimes mean sniffing, chasing or even trying to eat a bee!

Most bee stings are painful but mild!
Most pets may react for a few minutes to a sting (same as you and I), however, some dogs can have a serious allergic reaction, so it’s important to know what to look out for 😊

If you notice any of the following symptoms, contact your regular vet clinic for immediate advise:
- Swelling around the face, muzzle, lips or throat
- Hives or widespread itching
- Vomiting or diarrhoea
- Excessive drooling
- Weakness, wobbliness or collapse
- Difficulty breathing
Please note: if your pet is having difficulty breathing, or has significant facial swelling, this is an emergency! Contact your regular vet ASAP!

You can place a cool compress on the sting site to help with any discomfort and remove the stinger (if found).
🙅‍♀️ Do not give any medication including anti histamines unless advised to do so by your vet!
Doing so could lead to an avoidable reaction or over dose 😞

Today we are celebrating our wonderful vet nurses! 🥰
Today we recognise all the incredible things our nurses do for our patients, their families, and our clinic ❤️
From comforting nervous patients and giving endless cuddles, to assisting with procedures including surgeries and imaging, monitoring anaesthetics, caring for hospital patients, running blood tests and urine samples, answering questions/reception duties and keeping everything running behind the scenes — our vet nurses do it all! 🩺🐶🐱
Their compassion, knowledge, dedication and unwavering love for animals make such a difference every single day 🥰

We are incredibly lucky to have such a caring and hardworking team of vet nurses at BAH 😍

Thank you for everything you do — today and every day!
We appreciate you more than you know! 🐾✨

The grass seeds are out!! 😬

Grass seeds cause a lot of issues for pets during the warmer months!

These nasty little seeds work their way into your pets body any way they possibly can!!

Checking your pet daily for grass seeds is your best defence!
We recommend feeling the pets body all over and looking in the main grass seed entry points such as in between toes, mouths and ears!

Once these seeds have entered the animals body they will start to cause pain and discomfort for your pet!
This often includes ear infections if they have entered the ear canal or an abscess when they enter the body in other locations such as in between the toes.

Clipping your pets coat, especially their paws may help you prevent grass seed problems as they may be easier to spot!

Prevention is the key, so start a daily routine of checking your pet today!

🐦‍⬛ Have you found a bird who is small and may appear unable to fly?

✋️ Stop! 🛑

It is fledgling season! This means it is time for the baby birds to learn how to fly and adventure out on their own 🙂

Sometimes it may appear as though a bird has dropped from its nest or is having issues being able to fly when this could actually be a baby bird learning!
Usually in these instances the parents are close by watching the bird!
If you find a bird or fledgling who is in immediate danger, if safe to do so, remove the bird from the danger and call wildlife for advice.
If the bird does not appear to be in immediate danger, you can call wildlife for advice or watch the bird from a safe distance!

We often have fledglings brought into the clinic at this time of year mistaken for an injured bird which unfortunately means they are no longer being watched by their parents.

If a bird is obviously injured or in danger please call wildlife or a vet clinic for advise on what to do next 🙂🦜

🦜🦢🐦 You may be aware there has been a significant number of deceased birds at Lake Weeroona 😞 🐦🦢🦜

What does this mean?
The birds have been tested for bird flu, their results have come back as negative which means the cause of death is currently unknown.
Testing is still being done to determine the cause of death.

What should you do if you find an ill or injured bird?
- Do not approach any deceased or ill birds.
- Call wildlife to seek advice on what the next step should be.
- If you find a deceased bird, you can report this by calling Agriculture Victoria on 1800 675 888

Should we panic?
No. While testing for bird flu (H5N1 avian influenza) has come back negative, it is still advised to take precautions to avoid any unnecessary contact and spread of any potential infectious diseases.
- Avoid close contact with the birds including children or pets
- If you are concerned about a bird, contact wildlife for advice or Agriculture Victoria
