Another pic of a lowland Copperhead sent in, this time from a property in Korumburra.

Its strange how different pockets in our area of South Gippsland host different species populations.

As in there is such a high population of Tiger snakes in Nyora while 15 minutes up the road in Korumburra, there is such a large population of lowland Copperheads I've only caught two Tigers in Burra.

🐍 COPPERHEAD vs CAT — NARRE WARREN TODAY! 🐱

This video was sent through today from Narre Warren, showing a cat carrying a Lowland Copperhead in its mouth.

⚠️ PLEASE TAKE SNAKE BITES IN PETS SERIOUSLY!

Cats and dogs can sometimes survive a snake bite with prompt veterinary treatment, but every suspected snake bite should be treated as an emergency.

If you think your pet has been bitten, take them straight to a vet immediately — don’t wait for symptoms to appear.

🚨 Signs of a possible snake bite in pets can include:

• Sudden weakness or lethargy

• Wobbling, difficulty walking or collapse

• Vomiting or excessive drooling

• Dilated pupils

• Rapid or difficult breathing

• Tremors or twitching

• Paralysis or inability to stand

• Bleeding or blood in the urine

• Sudden death in severe cases

🐾 If your pet has been playing with, bitten by or found carrying a snake, assume it may have been bitten and get veterinary help immediately.

And please don’t try to handle the snake yourself. Keep your pets away and contact a professional snake catcher.

📍 Another reminder that snake season is starting — keep an eye on your pets, especially around long grass, sheds, wood piles and garden areas.

Snake Myth Monday 🐍

“If you have blue tongues around your house, you won’t get snakes.”
Unfortunately… the snakes didn’t get that memo 😅

Blue tongue lizards don’t scare snakes away — in fact, large snakes like tiger snakes may actually see them as a snack.

Nature can be brutal sometimes!

Blue tongues are awesome little backyard legends and great for keeping bugs and snails down, but they’re definitely not a snake repellent.

As always:

✔️ Respect wildlife
✔️ Leave snakes alone
✔️ Call a professional if needed
