What’s the benefit of front paws up? 🐕

This involves static balance, meaning the dog is remaining in a fixed posture, while the front legs are up on a stable platform. This exercise is great for core and forearm strength as well as the hind end supporting the front end being raised.

Use a small and stable platform to start, with traction. You can use a lure but we want the dog to be looking where they are stepping to step up while they learn.

Don’t forget to treat them for remaining in position 🍪

This is also great for proprioception skills as they eventually are able to step up on the platform without looking down - awareness of where their limbs are.

As they learn, use different platform heights always ensuring safety first with good traction and within their abilities 🐾

Rain doesn’t stop Billie from living her best life 🌧️

We continued on Billie’s lead skills, worked on strengthening her recall all while growing on an already strong bond with her parents.

Looking forward to seeing her continue to grow and progress 🐾

That eye 👀 I am absolutely OBSESSED with the creepiness that sheepdogs posses. The strong eye and stalk is quite amazing to watch (maybe some find it weird 🤷‍♀️) but it’s something that has encouraged me to continue learning about how these dogs work and the qualities that make them fantastic workers.

While Maxi hasn’t taken to actual sheep.. he definitely takes these balls VERY seriously 🐑

Does your dog struggle to listen to you when out and about?

Something that’s so valuable to grow with our dogs is CONNECTION, especially for our adolescent pups!

Connection means that we are a really high value to our dogs. This isn’t about obedience but about our relationship with them.

Life can be boring for dogs sometimes.. we can be at work atleast 8 hours a day normally, 5 days a week. Meanwhile, they’re in the same house or yard with no stimulation or activity all day long. We can bring fun and activity into their lives with how we interact with them and structure the morning/afternoon when we are home (because a lot of us need full time work to survive!) Some examples include play (play that they enjoy and find fulfilling) and games training. As we build on these interactions with our dogs, we’re actually strengthening our connection with them. Which is necessary for obedience skills like recall.

There are a range of things we can do but regularly focusing on things you do together release feel good hormones and lower stress levels - for both dog and human!

So instead of only having a focus on obedience training, take the pressure off and work on growing your connection 🐾

Sometimes life can feel overwhelming, so ensuring your dog is fulfilled each day can even feel like a chore. I struggle with this too, we’re all human.

Sometimes we need decompression too. I love taking Max to quiet areas where he can frolic and explore and I can enjoy the scenery.

No structure.

No plan.

No training exercises.

No pressure when we need a break.

So, when you feel overwhelmed or exhausted, think about places you can drive to where both human and dog can just BREATH 🌻

You’ll both be better off for it ❤️

🌼 Billie 🌼

This sweet gal is a young adolescent. She’s doing really well and her parents have been really dedicated to helping her and working on her training.

We’re giving Billie some tools to help with excitement around others dogs and distractions in the big wide world!
