Poodles, Schnoodles, Labradoodles, Spoodles.

Poodle and poodle cross coats require at least a twice weekly combing and brush to maintain a knot free coat. 🐩

Unlike other dog breeds they don’t typically ‘malt’ or shed and drop their hair around the house. 🏠

Instead their continually growing hair gets trapped in their tight curls and can twist together to form severe painful matting. 😬

Sometimes you need to start from scratch and that’s ok 😊.

We need to clip under the matting, so it can be rather short, but it will grow back and we can come up with a plan to maintain the coat and style that you would prefer. 🐶

How to choose what groom suits you and your dog. 🐶

Example 1

Breed: Border Collie (British herding dog)

❄️ Winter grooms: In winter she has her beautiful full length double layered coat. Maintained by weekly brushing and a monthly bath/ blow dry.
This helps keep her warm, skin clean and coat fresh. We still add a dog jacket at night for extra warmth and comfort as she’s a senior dog.

☀️ Summer grooms: In summer she gets clipped to a short flat coat length. We chose this to reduce moulting hair around the house, assist with keeping her cool on hot days, reduce the risk of grass seeds in her skin and skin infections, allow skin checks for ticks when we take her to the coast.

✂️ She gets two clips throughout the warm seasons and then we allow enough time for her to grow her winter coat ready for the cold seasons. Cost $90 1.5hrs.

This works well for us and Dixie. We have noticed how our border collies have coped better in the Australian summers. 😎

☀️ Other options for summer: Brush out, deshedding grooms, clip the belly/ groin/ armpits/ foot pads to allow better cooling, bath/ blow dry. Groom recommended every 4-6 weeks. Cost $60 an hour.

Have a chat with your groomer about which groom style would best suit you and your pet. You can try different styling options to find which suits best, as healthy dogs hair will grow back. 🐕

Look at this cutie!

Handsome Bob was a well mannered boy for his winter groom, hygiene trim and pamper. 🪮
Note that we trimmed his feet shorter than his coat. 🐾
This helps to reduce mud coming into the house, him sliding on the floors and help avoid possible skin infections from constant wet feet. 💦

VERY IMPORTANT.

A**l glands (or a**l sacs) in dogs. 🐕

What are they?
They are two small scent glands located just inside your dog’s bottom. When blocked or full they can cause discomfort, pain and possibly lead to infections. 😲

This can be one of the reasons why your dog is scooting it’s bottom or licking at it’s back end. 🐶

Being a qualified/ experienced vet nurse, Ruth at K9 Transformations offers a**l gland expressions and freshening spray for $25.

Our groom costs already include the a**l gland expression at no extra charge. 🐾
