Miss Jaz has one hell of a story, and today she absolutely blew me away. ❤️🐴

When I first met Jaz, a young OTTB with a significant hip injury from her short racing career and a past that gave her every reason to distrust people, simply picking up her feet was enough to send her into survival mode. Trust didn’t come easily, and hoof care was understandably a challenge.

One thing I strongly believe is that successful hoof care doesn’t just happen during a trim appointment. I spent time working with Jaz on hoof-handling exercises and taught her mum how to continue that training between visits, ensuring the progress didn’t stop when I drove away.

Over the last few trims, we’ve focused on building trust, confidence, and helping Jaz understand that hoof handling doesn’t have to be something to fear.

Today, all that work paid off. Despite blocking out extra time for her appointment, Jaz ended up being one of the quickest trims of my day. She stood quietly, offered her feet, and trusted me to work with her rather than against her.

Moments like these are why I love what I do. Good hoof care is about more than trimming feet. It’s about understanding the horse in front of you, working through their challenges, and giving owners the knowledge and confidence to continue that journey between visits.

Why I Choose The Hoof Co Blue Balls 💙

These photos are exactly why you’ll find me reaching for The Hoof Co Blue Balls during our wet weather months.

When horses are standing in mud, wet grass, and moisture day after day, the frog and collateral grooves can become the perfect environment for thrush-causing bacteria and fungi to thrive. The challenge isn’t always treating it — it’s keeping the area dry enough for healing to occur.

The Hoof Co Blue Balls are designed to absorb excess moisture while helping create a less favourable environment for thrush organisms. I like using them deep within the collateral grooves and central sulcus where mud, moisture and debris tend to accumulate.

In this case, you can see the product sitting exactly where I want it — packed into the deeper crevices where it can get to work between visits.

They’re not a substitute for good trimming, movement, nutrition, or environmental management, but they’re a simple tool I regularly use to help support hoof health through the wetter seasons.

With the amount of rain we’ve had lately, they’ve earned a permanent spot in my hoof care kit. 🌧️🐴

Regular trims are a lot like servicing your car. Skip a few and things can get expensive, uncomfortable, and slightly dramatic.

Your horse would much rather stick to a routine than audition for an episode of “Things We Could’ve Fixed Earlier.” 😅

Moisture has been the biggest hoof challenge lately. Constant wet conditions soften the hoof, weaken the frog and create the perfect environment for thrush and other unwanted issues.

Regular trims and staying on top of hoof care become even more important this time of year. These feet are working overtime in conditions like this, so giving them a little extra support can make a big difference.

There’s certainly an art in what I do as a barefoot trimmer. It’s knowing the exact points on where to stop and forming comfort for the horse (especially this pony) to not only stand on but to get back to running and all the activities she loves

This certainly isn’t an overnight fix but with the first trim done this pony is on her way to success! 🐎
