What does bird flu mean for your pets....
At this time we are still treating birds
1. Cats should be kept inside if they are hunters eating a bird infected with bird flu can transmit the disease to your cat.
2. Not everyone thinks about dogs but alot of dogs were bred to retrieve birds so will happily pick up a sick or injured bird. Some dogs will also eat birds, so can therefore catch the disease.
3. Caged birds should be kept away from wild birds where possible.
4. Poultry such as chickens and ducks should also be kept away from wild bird populations. Try feeding them in an enclosure that wild birds can not share food or water containers.
5. If you see a sick or injured bird do not pick it up if you are unsure leave it to the experts as PPE should worn if an animal is infected with bird flu.
