Freya came in for puppy vaccines — but her itchy ears told another story 👂🐶

Sweet little Freya visited us for her routine puppy care, but during her consult her owners mentioned she’d been scratching at her ears more than normal 🐾

After an ear examination and microscopy testing, Dr Natalie confirmed a yeast infection affecting both ears 🔬

Ear infections are very common in dogs and can sometimes start with subtle signs like scratching or head shaking before progressing to more significant discomfort 😔 Dogs with fluffy or floppy ears can be especially prone to irritation because warmth and moisture can build up inside the ear canal 👂

Some common signs to watch for include:
• Frequent ear scratching 🐾
• Head shaking 💨
• Red or irritated ears 🔴
• Odour from the ears 👃
• Dark wax or discharge
• Sensitivity when touched 🤍

Freya had her ears cleaned and started treatment to help settle the infection 💧 with a recheck booked for next week to monitor her progress 🩵

It’s always worth mentioning changes like ear scratching during your pet’s visit — early intervention can make a big difference to comfort and recovery 🩺🐶

🐱 Protect the ones you love 💚

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is a serious virus that affects a cat’s immune system, reducing their ability to fight disease and infection. Cats that spend time outdoors or may come into contact with unfamiliar cats can be at greater risk.

Vaccination can help provide protection and peace of mind for cat owners.

When you start an FIV vaccine course with Eureka Veterinary Hospital, you’ll receive:
✔️ FREE FIV blood test
✔️ FREE NexGard® Spectra
*T&Cs apply. While stocks last.*

Protect. Prevent. Love. 💚

When you dress for the occasion… but still end up at the vet 🎀🐾

Teddy came in today looking very sharp in his bowtie 🐶🎀

But behind the scenes, he had a sore spot on his back leg that just wouldn’t settle — his family had noticed he’d been licking at it more than usual 👀

After a check with our team, it turned out to be a hotspot — a common skin irritation that can appear quickly and become quite uncomfortable if left alone 🔴

Here’s how we helped Teddy:
• Clipped and cleaned the area ✂️
• Soothed the irritated skin 💧
• Sent him home with medication to support healing 💊

Hotspots can escalate faster than you might expect, especially when licking keeps the area moist and irritated.

Keep an eye out for:
• Ongoing licking or chewing 👅
• Red, moist or inflamed skin 🔴
• Sudden attention to one spot ⚠️

Catching these early can make a big difference.

Teddy took it all in stride — and kept his bowtie on the entire time 💛🐾

If something doesn’t seem quite right with your pet’s skin, we’re here to help.
