On another note I’ve been absolutely awful at promoting these little boys.
The first two are bonded and can leave for their new 🏠 now. The other two will be ready to go in a couple of weeks.
They are all so cheeky and people focused. The little lilac guy loves to popcorn in the empty feed bowl right before feeding 🤣

This girl has had a warm welcome home after holidaying in Queensland for the start of the year. Crazy to think I sent off a little baby and got a chunky mature sow back. I’m so excited to see what she produces. 🙏

It’s been a weird year here so far with the cavies.

There’s been no show team and has been a hard slog to get anything for the table. The few litters I have had have been shadowed by complications. The caviary set up whilst being good for the moment is still not my ideal. The “rescue” crew have managed to get situated as lawn mowers in my backyard but their hutch currently is a temporary solution for the moment. I am definitely missing my old set ups. 😅

On top of that the move has bought losses in my herd, both rescue and pedigree. A reality of owning my elderly pigs is that major change in living brings a risk of being too much for them. Fat Nuggets, Cookie and Eliza have bought so much joy to my life and it’s been an honour to own and love them. On top of that, breeding wise I’ve lost Kaisen suddenly 😭 while he had done his job and I’ve got his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren here, it’s still a saddening blow. He has pushed my alpacas to that next level and I’m so grateful to have had him in my stud.

Yet despite my frustrations and losses, there is still so much to be grateful for. The fact that I have guinea pigs for starters is a small miracle as I was considering moving interstate for my career. Meeting and falling in love all over again with my Baldwins is another special moment. The move has bought out some wall flowers in my herd and it’s been fun getting to see them learn life up here. Each litter despite the challenges, has bought a smile and I’m losing hours watching them grow. I’ve just started pairing again and already planning for the 2027 show.

This year has definitely consolidated my love for them and helped remind me why I do this, especially when everything has had to slow down. At the end of the day it’s still just me in a shed with my dog and piggies, where else would I rather be?! 🤣💖

So back home after a massive weekend in Dubbo for the Australian National Cavy Show.

Whilst I didn’t exhibit at the show I did present my girls and Popcorn in the Unstandardised class. It was so nice to see other people’s Baldwins and get to chat with other breeders in the different states. My crew travelled amazingly and were so settled on the journey.

I was very lucky to come home with some new and old faces on the alpaca front. They will get their own post in time 😜

Lastly congratulations to all the winners! Everyone’s cavies were presented beautifully with so much care and dedication.

Catching the plague was not on my 2026 to do list but oh well 😅 I’m feeling a lot more human now but I’m pretty sure I’ll have my cough until 2027.
In the meantime though, how bloody cute are these little babies? It is the best first world problem to have when everyone could be a keeper 🥹🤦‍♀️
