🐎 Looking for your perfect OTT match?

It’s easy to fall for the pretty face, flashy trot or dream bloodlines - but finding the right horse for you is about much more than first impressions.

Racing Victoria Acknowledged Retrainer Nina Lloyd of Ballahowe Performance shares her advice for finding your next OTT, starting with one simple tool: a checklist.

Nina recommends dividing your list into three categories:

1. Wish List - the things you’d love to have.
2. Negotiables - where you’re willing to be flexible.
3. Deal Breakers - the things your new horse genuinely needs to suit your lifestyle and circumstances.

Because sometimes the perfect horse for you isn’t perfect on paper — or even the horse you originally imagined.

Rocco is back in work completing two weeks of being brought back into work after a spell before he heads off to his new home, and he is once again proving what a special young horse he is.

His excellent temperament, relaxed nature and trainability have made him such a pleasure to work with. He is a kind, willing and sensible young horse who takes everything in his stride and this is a testament to his solid foundation of basics when he was broken in.

We sold Rocco out of work and offered a discounted retraining rate to get him going and give him the best start in his new home and this is something we can do for any of our clients purchasing a horse out of work, or wanting some further education.

We’re so excited to see where his new journey takes him once he heads to his new home next week ❤️

Five years ago, the Off The Track Community platform - www.ottcommunity.com.au - was created to help support Thoroughbreds beyond racing and connect the people who are passionate about their second careers.

Today, that community has grown to more than 12,000 members, with over 7,600 Thoroughbreds claimed and countless success stories shared across Victoria and beyond.

Over the past five years, we've celebrated the versatility of the Thoroughbred, provided educational resources and opportunities for owners, supported post-racing pathways, and continued to advocate for the welfare and visibility of retired racehorses.

Most importantly, we've built a community that recognises that a Thoroughbred's story doesn't end when they leave the racetrack.

Claiming your horse through the OTT Community helps improve visibility of retired racehorses and strengthens our understanding of where Thoroughbreds are thriving after racing.

It also unlocks access to member benefits, educational resources, exclusive events and programs designed to support both horses and owners.

Every horse claimed helps contribute to a stronger future for Thoroughbreds beyond racing. Find out more 🔗 www.ottcommunity.com.au/im-new
