🦷 Theo came in for two things today… and we found two little surprises.

Sweet Theo is 6 months old and came in today for his castration and microchip. 🐱
For many kittens, we can do both at the same time, which means their microchip is taken care of while they're already with us for their procedure.

During Theo's examination, we also spotted something else; two deciduous (baby) canine teeth that hadn't fallen out when his adult teeth came through.

Normally those little baby teeth make way for the adult ones, but occasionally they decide to stick around. When they do, they can crowd the adult teeth and create places for food and plaque to collect.

As Theo was already under anaesthetic, we were able to remove both retained baby teeth at the same time.
So Theo headed home today castrated, microchipped and two baby teeth lighter. 😸🧡

Caught in the act… 🐾

This sweet pup got into something they definitely shouldn't have and needed a same-day visit with our team.

Thankfully, we were able to safely induce vomiting and get everything back up before it had a chance to cause more trouble.

And judging by the kisses Nurse Chey received afterwards, there were clearly no hard feelings about the whole experience! 🧡

A little pre-surgery love. ❤️

Before this sweet girl headed in for her desexing procedure, Dr Jodie made sure there was time for a few extra cuddles.

For our patients, coming into hospital means being away from their favourite people and everything familiar. So we take our time — a gentle hello, a cuddle when it's wanted, and a chance to settle in before the medical stuff begins.

Because how they feel while they're in our care matters just as much to us. 💜🧡🐾

💬 𝗠𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿… 𝘀𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸?

They're scratching less.

The eye looks better.

The wound seems to be healing.

So it’s completely reasonable to wonder why your vet has asked to see them again.

Feeling better and being fully recovered aren't always the same thing.

A recheck lets us see whether the treatment has actually done what we wanted it to do and whether it's safe to stop, needs a little longer, or needs to change.

Take an ear infection.

Your dog may stop scratching once the inflammation settles, but looking back inside the ear and sometimes checking another sample can tell us whether the underlying problem has actually resolved.

The same principle can apply to skin problems, wounds, eye conditions, ongoing illnesses and many other treatments.

Rechecks also give you a chance to tell us what happened at home.

What improved?
What didn't?
Was giving the medication difficult?
Did something new happen?

That information matters.

🐾 Think of a recheck as finishing the conversation we started at the first visit.

Meet Teddy. 💜

Teddy spent the day with us at Windaroo Vet for his desexing procedure, with Nurse Tiana making sure there was plenty of love waiting for him both before surgery and as he woke up afterwards.

And there's something you might not know about Windaroo Vet…

😺 Our cats and dogs have separate hospital areas and consult rooms. 🐶

For a cat, the sounds and smells of unfamiliar dogs can be stressful. And some dogs aren't particularly thrilled about sharing their space with cats either! Keeping them separate helps make their visit that little bit calmer while they're away from home.

For Teddy, though, we suspect having Nurse Tiana nearby helped too. 💜🧡

When something they shouldn't eat becomes an emergency. 🐾

This patient needed our help quickly after swallowing a foreign object that couldn't safely stay where it was.

Dr Aaron, Dr George and Nurse Millie worked together to perform an emergency exploratory surgery and retrieve the foreign body.

These are the moments where teamwork really matters. While our vets focused on the surgery, our nursing team was right there monitoring, anticipating what was needed next and caring for their patient throughout.

We're very happy to see this little one safely on the other side of surgery. 🧡
