A lovely evening at Fowles W**e last Thursday for our Referring Vets Dinner. 🍷

It was great to come together for an evening of good food, great conversation and the opportunity to catch up outside the hospital.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to trust our hospital with the care of their patients. We value these relationships and the collaboration between referring veterinarians and our team. 🙌

Breeding season is almost here, and preparation is key when it comes to equine emergencies.

Our Avenel Equine Hospital team recently came together for a dystocia (difficult foaling) simulation, ensuring everyone is ready to respond quickly and effectively when every second counts.

When these cases arise, they are managed by a highly experienced multidisciplinary team, including a surgeon, anaesthetist, medicine specialist, nursing team and interns, all working together to give both mare and foal the very best chance of a successful outcome.

Here's to a safe and successful breeding season! 🐎

We say farewell to Intern Dr Guy Davis as he wraps up his 12-month internship with us.

Guy's passion for equine practice developed later in his veterinary studies, but once he decided this was the path for him, he jumped straight into an equine internship to build his skills and experience.

As an intern, no two days are the same. From presenting patient rounds and assisting in surgery to monitoring anaesthesia, administering treatments and working closely with our veterinary team, Guy has embraced every opportunity to learn.

When asked what has been the most rewarding part of his internship, Guy said it was collaborating with such an amazing team to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Throughout his internship, Dr Duncan Pearce and Dr Angus Adkins have been influential mentors, helping guide and support his development as a veterinarian.

One of Guy's standout memories was scrubbing in for an intussusception surgery, an experience he won't forget.

As he looks ahead, Guy is exploring opportunities in mixed practice. We wish Guy success in his future career. 🐎

Congratulations to all the connections in this mare 🤩

EVA Careers Night 🐴

Registered Specialist in Equine Medicine Dr Francesca Worsman and Intern Dr Emily King recently represented Avenel Equine Hospital at the Equine Veterinarians Australia (EVA) Careers Night at the University of Melbourne.

Francesca and Emily shared their career journeys with veterinary students, offering an insight into life in equine practice and the many opportunities available within the profession.

It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout, with fellow presenters including Dr Gareth Trope (EVA Victorian State Representative), Intern Dr Grace Peck from South Eastern Equine Hospital, and Dr Ian Church and Dr Joe Waldron from Bay Equine. It was also great to have the 2026 EVA Victorian Young Member Representative (to be confirmed) in attendance.

A big thank you to Tanya Morham, 2026 EVA Victorian Student Representative, for organising such a successful evening and creating a valuable opportunity for students to connect with experienced equine veterinarians.

We always enjoy supporting the next generation of equine vets and look forward to seeing where their careers take them. 🙌
