Super nurse Tia is running some blood work for a sick patient
We are one of the very few vets open on Sunday between Perth and Adelaide. Unfortunately pets get sick on Sunday too. We understand that which is why we are here to help. Working 7 days a week has been exhausting. The good news is we have found two vets to start working at Treendale and we hope they will be able to start in July.

HOPE FOR IVDD - dachshund and French bulldog owners take note.

A recent study published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association shows great success of an experimental alternative to surgery for disc disease in dogs. An injection into the herniated disc rapidly dissolves the herniated disc material as well as spinal surgery which is extremely expensive, very painful and carries a high risk of potential complications

Chondroitinase is injected into the affected disc, where it enzymatically degrades disc material to reduce herniation and spinal cord compression, with a reported ~95% recovery rate.

The study findings suggest that outcomes following disc injection may be broadly comparable to those reported for decompressive surgery. In dogs with intact deep pain perception, the recovery rate approached 95%, with a median time to ambulation of 11 days—figures consistent with, and in some cases numerically favorable to, published surgical outcomes.

No related adverse effects were identified, and the technique was well tolerated.

Unfortunately the chondoitinase injection is not available in Australia but we will be monitoring this development with keen interest.

POWER OUTAGE
Gen X survives power outage and IT crisis.
Apologies for the disruption in service today. We lost our phones, our computers our software system and everything else throwing the afternoon into chaos. The customer service team did an exceptional job under difficult circumstances. We apologise if you were unable to get through. After the power came back we had an IT crisis which our GEN X customer service team managed to sort out without IT specialist intervention. This is a very proud day. Many thanks to Mandy, Lynette and Marney who finished around 6pm after assisting to manage the crisis. And a big thank you to Luana who is pictured with crocodile tears after the emotional trauma of the afternoon. It was a very difficult afternoon for our team. They handled the event with the utmost professionalism. Dr Rob is so proud of our front desk team. They are exceptional. Sincere apologies to anyone inconvenienced by the events of the afternoon. Hopefully everything will be running smoothly again tomorrow

We can do CTs on site at Treendale.
The CTs will be interpreted by us but if there are doubts we can refer the images to a specialist via cloud technology . The CT images can also be turned into 3D models and also X-rays

Leticia is going on maternity leave. She is having a baby girl in a few weeks. “Squishy” has made the last few weeks very challenging for Leticia as she battled fatigue and some aches. Like a trooper she battled on. We wish her all the best as the big day arrives. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly. Nicci is our new receptionist. She’s just learning the ropes. There is approximately 800,000 things to learn to be a receptionist on the front desk of a busy veterinary hospital. Please be kind as she negotiates her way through the challenging first few weeks. Today we were privileged to have a visit from the veterinary dermatology specialists. Pictured is Dr Rob and our super nurse Catelyne with Dr Georgia our visiting specialist with her super nurse Sara. We were reviewing an interesting case under the microscope.
