Meet Frankie! 🐾

This tiny little Italian Greyhound came in for his vaccination and was quite possibly the cutest little patient we’ve had in our hands! 🥹

Frankie was so teeny, he practically fit in the palm of our hands. 🥰

Safe to say, we were all a little bit obsessed! 💚

Bird flu is making headlines, so Better Homes & Gardens asked Greencross Vets what it means for our pets.

Greencross Vets veterinarian Dr Nina shares practical advice to help pet parents understand the risks and take simple precautions.

“Bird flu can infect all mammals, so dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets can all be infected.”

From avoiding contact with sick or dead wildlife to keeping cats indoors and dogs on a leash around wildlife, a few simple steps can help reduce exposure.

🖤 A majestic visitor who never should have needed a trip to the vet.

This beautiful black swan was found with a fishing hook stuck in its mouth - a painful and completely preventable injury caused by discarded fishing gear.

Removing the hook required a general anaesthetic, along with pain relief to keep this feathered patient comfortable while we treated them. 🦢

A reminder to all anglers: please take your fishing line, hooks and tackle home with you or use a designated disposal bin. The Victorian Fisheries Authority advises that old fishing line should be placed in bins, or if there are no bins available, taken home, cut up and disposed of in general waste. Their Seal the Loop program also provides dedicated bins for unwanted fishing line, hooks, netting and rope. (VFA)

Discarded fishing gear can cause entanglement, injury and even death to wildlife. A few extra seconds to dispose of your gear properly can make a huge difference. 💔

🎣 Fish responsibly. Dispose responsibly. Protect our wildlife. A big thanks for the wildlife careers for bringing this amazing swan in and thanks to our team for helping 🫶🏼

🐾✨ Stella’s surgery success! ✨🐾

Sweet 11-year-old Stella recently underwent an emergency cystotomy with us to remove bladder stones. 🩺💗

After her procedure and a little time to recover, Stella is now doing amazingly well so far and almost back to being her happy self! 🥰🐶

We’re so pleased to see this beautiful girl feeling comfortable and healthy again. 💕

This weekend is going to be HOT!! 🥵

Please help our wildlife and pets by following a few simple steps.

Pets
- DO NOT LEAVE THEM IN THE CAR - not for 5 mins, not with the windows down, not in the shade.

- DO NOT WALK THEM in the heat or on the hot ground. Heatstroke and burnt paws are no joke. If you cant walk barefoot on the hot ground then don't make your pet do it.

- Don't let them overexert themselves, look for signs of overheating

- Provide ample shade, water and cool places for them to lie down/walk etc

Wildlife
- Leave shallow bowls of water for our native animals, with a stick or stone sitting in it so they can get out if they fall in.

- You can offer water if you find an animal in trouble but don't force it to drink... take it to hospital.

Your first port of call for injured, unwell or displaced wildlife should always be Wildcare Helpline 9474 9055, however there are a number of wildlife shelters/hospitals around Perth (see image attached) if that's your preference. DO NOT hold on to them unless you are a registered rehabber.

How are you keeping your furr babies cool this weekend??
We’d love to see some pictures in the comments ❤️❤️❤️

CAT VACCINE SHORTAGE

Due to high demands and supply issues with the manufacturers and wholesalers, all Cat vaccines are now currently experiencing shortages Australia wide.

We have run out of cat vaccines and there is currently no ETA on when these vaccinations will become available again.

We have created a list of our clients booking in for vaccinations and they will all be contacted as soon as we get a new supply in.

In the meantime, recommendations from the manufacturer are to keep all cats inside to lower the risk of transmission of diseases and wash hands after interacting with cats outside your home. Our team will be adhering to the Australia Veterinary Association guidelines to ensure the vaccinations available are allocated to those of highest risk of infection.
