Do we underestimate the off the track thoroughbred
Miss Mooney has been the nicest horse I’ve ever trained
She’s willing not spooky used to loads of stuff & being only 4 having only raced twice - very slowly- she’s a healthy fit blank canvas
I wasn’t going to get attached but I haven’t been able to help myself she’s a sweet mare who loves attention & a brush & Emmett treatment
She’s transitioned to barefoot well & has great feet
Her canter is one of the nicest I’ve ever ridden
She’s learning to be light in transitions & starting to pop some small jumps willing
She’s polite on the ground & easy to handle
She enjoyed her first trail ride although a bit shocked 😳 to realise there are hills out there
I can’t find fault with her at all
Did I just get lucky
Or do the OTT when retrained well work out the same

Was reading something today from another horse trainer about pressure & release
Feel timing & the use of pressure & release to train a positive reaction in a horse
All great information
But
Working with people has shown me how often people miss that precious moment when they need to release
I’ll say to people did you see that & their usual response is what ???
To use pressure & release as a training aid you have to be so observant & present in the moment
Horses offer the right answer & it’s missed so often so they will try something else which leads to the wrong answer
It takes practice to get it but I like to teach people to be present & observant
This can be learned
It can be taught
So if you find something isn’t working out
Think
Am I completely present
Am I observing the simplest try & rewarding what my horse is offering
Horses are easy to train
People are different to train
Centring grounding & being present is so important
For people
Kids find it easy to be present in the moment
We seem to loose it as we get older
Too much other stuff going on in our brain
Cooper is present in the moment…with his ice cream
Happy horsing

Remembering that sometimes the problem is not actually the problem
Would love to have a fun horse learning day
Relaxed & embracing new ideas
