A story about Dr Genine’s favourite animal. Do you know what little creature this is?
A few years back whilst still working in South Africa Dr Genine was presented with this tiny baby little pangolin who somehow ended up in the middle of a busy road with severe head trauma and a few bruises. He was rescued by Dr Helena a state vet who then brought him in to the clinic for emergency care. At first he was disoriented, rolling in circles and unable to stand. After he was stabilised in hospital he got transferred to a rescue centre where he was hand reared and rehabilitated for over a year. What a miracle! He did make it to freedom where he eventually got released back into the wild🧡 There is a short doco on youtube telling his story and showing the depths and level of commitment it takes from the pangolin rescue volunteers to rehabilitate pangolins. These precious animals are currently the most trafficked mammals on earth. African pangolin working group is a rescue organisation very close to Dr. Genine’s heart. See link for the doco but be warned it is not for sensitive souls as the reality of wildlife in crisis can be heart breaking at times. Rainbow worriers across the world are not discouraged though and bravely keep fighting for the preservation of wildlife. How can we help from suburbia?
