What do a vet’s dog, vodka, a drip and an old car engine have in common? 🍸🐶🚗
Well… it’s a story about Tombi!
When you remove an engine, you drain the oil, brake fluid and radiator coolant into a tub. To the average dog, you’d like to think this would be a very unattractive combination.
But not Tombi. 😂
She managed to drink some of it and, a couple of hours later, started vomiting.
The big danger was the antifreeze (ethylene glycol). Even a small amount can cause severe, potentially permanent kidney damage in dogs.
Fortunately, there was a rather unusual treatment option: vodka! 🍸
Ethanol can interfere with the metabolism of ethylene glycol, so it can be used as an antidote when administered appropriately, including intravenously in veterinary treatment.
Thankfully, Tombi made a full and uneventful recovery… apart from being a little bit “under the influence.” 😂🐾
Another day in the life of a vet- where sometimes the treatment plan involves a drip, a very sick dog, and a surprising amount of vodka!
