Cats communicate through their body language 🐈

The signs they use to communicate are very different to those of people!

In order to build a more positive relationship with your pet, it's important to learn what these signs are, and what they mean.

Pay attention to their:
👀 Eyes
🐱 Ears
🐈 Body and tail

Just remember:
🔸 These signs can be very subtle, and they don't mean the same thing every time
🔸 Your cat's behavior depends on their environment
🔸Compare these signs to the way your cat usually acts

Has your cat recently started acting different? This can be a sign of illness.
Book a check-up with us via our online booking system 🛜
How to book online is pinned at the top of both our Instagram and Facebooked pages!

🦸‍♀️ Meet our Staff Monday! 🦸‍♀️

Also a warm welcome onboard for Dr. Francesca! 👏🏻

Chess grew up in Yackandandah before a long stint in Melbourne. She loves the variety of GP medicine and being part of family's lives over multiple generations of pets. Chess has been involved in charity work as the clinical co-ordinator for Pets in the Park St Kilda and loves being involved in community causes. Chess loves seeing long pointy dogs (Whippets and Greyhounds) and has a baby whippet called William who is very long and pointy.

We are stoked to have Chess recently join our force, she brings the variety we love to see in our team! 🌸

🐶 This is Alfie!
Little Alfie came in for a worming tablet and a nail trim, which of course was accompanied by treats galore! 🦴🐾
This pocket sized pup was so brave for it all from the comfort provided by our team (and the bribery of treats!)
Not only does it make our day that we know our patients have had a comfortable and stress free visit with us, but puppy cuddles also do the trick! 🧡🫶🏻

🦸‍♀️ Meet our staff Monday! 🦸‍♀️

🐳 Donna

Donna began her nursing career in April 2000 with Dr Mara King and was later adopted into the Family Vet Centre team. She finds all aspects of veterinary nursing rewarding and after completing her Certificate IV in vet nursing she went on to study for a Diploma in Vet Nursing – General Practice. Working in a clinic that strives to provide the best possible care for the patient and client, while sometimes challenging is also highly rewarding and she feels very privileged to work with such a passionate and highly educated team of vets and veterinary nurses.

Now our bookkeeping queen- Donna is in charge of all things finance! Keeping all our ducks in a row and working tirelessly behind the scenes everyday, we’d be a little more than lost without her 🪙

Meet Tails! 🐹
Tails came in for a health check and a lump on his back 🩺
Lumps are a common finding in Guinea pigs and they are usually benign which is great news! However, they can grow and become annoying or infected.
Tails is having a procedure soon to remove his lump which is likely a trichofolliculoma (benign mass coming from the cells of a hair follicle). We also see sebaceous cysts frequently on Guinea pigs- they are full of a thick oily pasty discharge and can get very big.
We perform procedures under anaesthesia on exotic pets frequently at Family Vet Centre.

With a passion and focus on learning how to care for these precious little ones, we strive to provide a safe experience with minimal stress 🧡

Vet visits don’t have to be scary! 🩺
With patience, understanding and fear free techniques, we can help make your cat’s experience a calmer one 🐾☺️

Many cats find travel, unfamiliar smells, noises and handling overwhelming, even if they seem quiet in clinic.

🐈 Fear free consults help reduce anxiety!
We aim to create a calmer experience using gentle handling, patience and techniques that help your cat feel safer and more comfortable.
Sometimes all it takes is a yummy snack! 😋
This little kitty came in for a consult yesterday and was relaxed as can be, thanks to our superstar team (and tasty treats) 🌟

Our goal is to help your cat feel safe, supported and build positive experiences over time 🧡

🦸‍♀️ Meet our staff Monday! 🦸‍♀️

🐸 Dr. Jess

When Jessica was a young child her mother always said that one day she'd be a vet. As a young adult she started breeding chickens for show in a small unit backyard in Melbourne. Jessica moved interstate to complete her veterinary degree at CSU Wagga Wagga and settling in Holbrook. Her interests are small animal medicine and poultry medicine and Jessica loves to see the odd chook walk through the clinic doors.
Her family also includes five green tree frogs, a turtle as well as quail, pigeon and her human children Evan and Rosie and her husband Stuart.
She still shows her ducks and geese now and then with the family in tow and she also enjoys cooking, reading, bird photography, camping, 4WDing and gardening.

Dr. Jess’ incredible way with all her patients as well as their owners is nothing short of admirable. Her knowledge knows no bounds! 🦆
