This tiny little Italian Greyhound came in for his vaccination and was quite possibly the cutest little patient we’ve had in our hands! 🥹

Frankie was so teeny, he practically fit in the palm of our hands. 🥰

Safe to say, we were all a little bit obsessed! 💚

Bird flu is making headlines, so Better Homes & Gardens asked Greencross Vets what it means for our pets.

Greencross Vets veterinarian Dr Nina shares practical advice to help pet parents understand the risks and take simple precautions.

“Bird flu can infect all mammals, so dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets can all be infected.”

From avoiding contact with sick or dead wildlife to keeping cats indoors and dogs on a leash around wildlife, a few simple steps can help reduce exposure.

Ziggy came in for his castrate last week! 🐶💙 He was just too cute to resist, so naturally, he spent most of the day getting cuddles from the team! 🥰

🖤 A majestic visitor who never should have needed a trip to the vet.

This beautiful black swan was found with a fishing hook stuck in its mouth - a painful and completely preventable injury caused by discarded fishing gear.

Removing the hook required a general anaesthetic, along with pain relief to keep this feathered patient comfortable while we treated them. 🦢

A reminder to all anglers: please take your fishing line, hooks and tackle home with you or use a designated disposal bin. The Victorian Fisheries Authority advises that old fishing line should be placed in bins, or if there are no bins available, taken home, cut up and disposed of in general waste. Their Seal the Loop program also provides dedicated bins for unwanted fishing line, hooks, netting and rope. (VFA)

Discarded fishing gear can cause entanglement, injury and even death to wildlife. A few extra seconds to dispose of your gear properly can make a huge difference. 💔

🐾✨ Stella’s surgery success! ✨🐾

Sweet 11-year-old Stella recently underwent an emergency cystotomy with us to remove bladder stones. 🩺💗

After her procedure and a little time to recover, Stella is now doing amazingly well so far and almost back to being her happy self! 🥰🐶

We’re so pleased to see this beautiful girl feeling comfortable and healthy again. 💕

Who remembers our little angel pie, sweetheart, honeybun Bean from our puppy preschool class in March? He was in today, twice as big and twice as fluffy for his desexing procedure and was so brave! 🖤🥰 The nurses were trying to find out his hair care routine but he wouldn’t share his secrets! 😂😭

🎓🐾 PUPPY PRESCHOOL GRADUATES! 🐾🎓

Trying to get photos of this crew was no easy feat with all those zoomies! 😂📸 But behind the blurry photos are some absolute characters who brought so much fun, personality and chaos to puppy preschool.

🐍 How do you anaesthetise a snake?

This is Autumn, a beautiful scrub python (Simalia kinghorni), who recently underwent surgery with Dr Taleta at Greencross Aitkenvale.
Did you know that scrub pythons are one of Australia's largest snake species? At 3.8 kg, Autumn still has plenty of growing to do!
Like our dog and cat patients, reptiles require carefully planned anaesthesia and monitoring. Autumn's anaesthetic was maintained via an endotracheal tube (ETT), allowing delivery of inhalational anaesthetic directly to her lungs. Throughout the procedure, a Doppler ultrasound was used to continuously monitor blood flow and heart rate, helping ensure a safe and stable anaesthetic.

Because reptiles have a much slower metabolism than mammals, their anaesthetic management and recovery require a detailed understanding of their unique physiology—including temperature regulation, ventilation and cardiovascular function. Every species presents its own fascinating challenges!

We're delighted to report that Autumn recovered beautifully from her procedure and is now back with the wonderful carers at NQ Wildlife, where she'll continue her rehabilitation before hopefully returning to the wild. 🌿
