We are administering FIV vaccines for cats for just $70 (Wednesdays 3-6pm).

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) - What is it?

FIV is a virus which can cause a serious and potentially fatal disease in cats by depressing the immune system. As the disease progresses, the cat may become susceptible to infections by bacteria, viruses and parasites.

Signs which may develop include chronic gingivitis, skin disease and weight loss. FIV infection has also been linked to kidney disease and neurological disease.

Sadly in some cats infected with FIV, the Immune system becomes too weak to fight off other infections and disease, resulting in death.

There is NO CURE for FIV infection. The most common way for a cat to become infected is by being bitten by an infected cat. The only way to prevent this awful disease is to have your cat vaccinated!

Call us on 8337 0113 to book in your cats FIV vaccine.

Due to the current Bird Flu outbreak seen in some birds south of the city, Glynde Veterinary Surgery will no longer be seeing bird patients just for the time being. Our goal is to keep everyone as safe as possible. If you have a bird that needs a vet, please contact other vet clinics that specialise in avian medicine.

Below is some excellent advice from the Australian Government about bird flu, its transmission, and the number to call if you have found a weak, disoriented bird. Do not touch the bird. Call 1800 675 888 to report it.

Today Ruben came for desexing. He is quite the "Chatty Cathy" with a kind disposition.

By getting Ruben castrated, he now won't be able to add to the overpopulation crisis we are currently seeing in cat numbers. Castration also removes risk associated with testicular cancer formation and may also help to lessen or stop unwanted marking behaviour.

One of our recent students, Minseo, who undertook her vet med industry placement with us. She was getting in some cuddles with the cutest Shiba Inu puppy.

We hope Minseo had fun with us and learnt a thing or two to take away with her as she continues her university studies.

The cat who went on an adventure...

This is the tired face of one very lucky cat Qiqi. Qiqi is an inside cat who snuck out of the house 4 months ago. Qiqi's owner was simply put, devastated!

Because Qiqi is microchipped, she was eventually handed into a vet clinic and the vet team were able to contact Qiqi's owner to say they'd been found. By the time Qiqi got to us (her regular vet team), she was so exhausted, had clearly lost some weight and was just ready to crash out and sleep.

After a health check and some celebrating, Qiqi was given the all clear by Dr Paul, and could finally go home. This is exactly why microchipping cats and dogs is so vital, as it can get them back home, where they belong when they're missing. The glynde vet team are all so happy for such a great outcome.
