What a great night! 💞

A huge thank you to for including grooming education as part of your puppy school program 🐶✨

It was such a great experience speaking at my first class — definitely a little nerve-racking… but cute puppies make everything better 😉🐾

A big well done to everyone who has enrolled in Pawsitive Dog Training & Co Puppy School. Angelika is a brilliant, outside-the-box trainer who truly cares about helping dogs and their humans succeed together.

I really wish more people understood just how important it is to start teaching puppies the art of grooming early in life.
Tonight the pups:
🐾 Experienced the grooming table
🐾 Had nail trims
🐾 Tried the comb & slicker brush

Most importantly, we spoke about finding a groomer who suits both the dog and the owner — someone who will work through the grooming process at the dog’s pace 💞

We also spoke about the importance of at-home grooming.

If your dog won’t “let” you brush or comb them at home… what type of grooming experience do you think they’re going to have in a salon environment?

Grooming should never suddenly start when a dog arrives at the salon. Small, positive experiences at home make a huge difference to your dog’s confidence, comfort & overalwell-beingng ✨

It was so lovely talking with everyone tonight. Different lifestyles, different dogs, different personalities… but all with the same goal: wanting the very best for their canine companion 🐶

I can’t emphasise this enough: Do your research within the dog industry. Ask questions. Ask ALL the questions.

There are no bad questions when it comes to your dog’swell-beingg ✨

The more you understand, the better you can advocate for and provide for your dog.

We’re always an open book here at FnS 💗 Even if you aren’t a client — ask away.

☔🌱 FnS Wet Weather Tip 🌱☔

During wet weather, many dogs need their sanitary areas cleaned more regularly at home 💞

Wet grass, muddy yards & longer winter coats can quickly create problems — especially around the sanitary/private areas.

If left damp or dirty, this can lead to:
• Urine burn
• Coat compaction & matting
• Skin irritation & rashes
•Odorr build up
• Increased risk of infections or UTIs

This is especially important for:
🐾 Double coated breeds
🐾 Long coated breeds
🐾 Senior dogs
🐾 Dogs with thick feathering

Even a quick rinse, wipe down, or gentle comb through after outside play can make a huge difference through winter ☔✨

Remember — wet coat + loose undercoat = coat sticking together like glue 👀

The longer it sits damp, the harder it becomes to properly maintain.

Winter coat maintenance is just as important as summer maintenance 💞🐶

❄️🐾 Brrr… it’s cold in here… 🐾❄️

As the weather gets colder, there’s a good chance you may be walking your dog less 🐾

As you know…
walking on concrete and bitumen naturally helps file your dog’s nails down.

So if walks are becoming less frequent —
it’s important to check & trim those nails more often 💞

Particularly for:
⭐ Young dogs learning to enjoy their little pedicures
⭐ Senior dogs whose nails grow much quicker

Long nails can affect comfort, posture, movement, and confidence 💞

Winter coat maintenance is important…
but don’t forget about nail maintenance, too 🐾💞

May is one of the hardest months of the year for groomers.
Honestly… it’s the month that can make or break some groomers.

It’s often the time of year when dogs who haven’t been groomed in 6–12 months suddenly appear. Some have a year’s worth of dead coat to work through. Some are terrified of grooming because they’ve only experienced it once or twice a year. And for the dogs… that can be incredibly overwhelming.

I think sometimes people suddenly look at the coat and go: “Oh sh*t…” 😅

Fortunately for me, I’m already booked out for the next few months — and I’m not taking any new clients — so this year, I’ll miss a lot of that rush.

In previous years, I would work until I turned into a zombie trying to fit everybody in. Not because of the money — but because it’s hard saying no when you genuinely want to help the dogs.

But boundaries are important, too.

These days, I physically can’t take on many extra bookings or new clients. So, instead of running myself into the ground every May… I’m focusing on education instead.

Don’t hate — educate 💞 Wish me luck 😆

And to the amazing people who:
✨ pre-book consistently
✨ maintain regular grooming schedules
✨ put effort into home maintenance
✨ keep learning about coat care

Thank you. Seriously.

Your consistency makes a huge difference to your dog’s comfort,well-being, and grooming experience.

Let’s remember: your dog’s coat serves a purpose. It’s not just there for aesthetic pleasure ✨

☔💞 FnS Wet Weather Tip 💞☔

One of the most common places we find matting and coat compaction during winter and rainy weather…is around the neck under the collar 👀

When a wet collar sits against the coat, it traps moisture and friction against the skin — especially in thick double coats. That damp hair can compact down very quickly if it isn’t combed through properly.

If your dog has been out enjoying the rain:✨ Remove the collar✨ Use a wide tooth comb through the wet neck area✨ Leave the collar off while the coat dries✨ Then fine tooth comb the area again once dry

This can help prevent:☁️ Matting☁️ Coat compaction☁️ Skin irritation & hot spots

Small maintenance steps at home can make a huge difference to your dog’s comfort 💞

Be honest… 🐶💭
If you could go back to when your dog was a puppy —
what would you do differently with grooming?

Because grooming isn’t just about how your dog looks —
it’s about what they learn to feel during the process
and how healthy we can get that coat 💞

Was it:
🪮 Learning what tools actually suit your dog’s coat
💅 Teaching them to feel comfortable with nail trims
🌬️ Helping them learn that the blow dryer isn’t so scary
✨ Understanding how important coat maintenance really is
📅 Knowing how often to groom — both at home and in the salon

At FnS, we see both sides every day:
✨ Dogs who were introduced early and feel confident
💭 Dogs who are still learning to trust the process later in life

Both are okay —
but early education makes a huge difference 💗
