HELP US REDUCE THE IMPACT OF KITTEN SEASON!

Kitten season can bring a huge increase in unwanted litters, putting extra pressure on rescues, shelters and loving homes.

One of the most important things we can do as responsible pet owners is desex our cats. 🐱❤️

-Male cats — $120
-Cone — approx. $10
-Recovery suit — approx. $30–$33

🐾 NEW PUPPY? JOIN OUR PUPPY SCHOOL! 🐾

Bringing home a puppy is exciting… but it can also come with a LOT of questions! 🐶💕

Our Puppy School at Blakes Tiver Road Veterinary Centre is designed to help you and your new puppy get off to the best possible start.

Over 4 weekly classes, we cover the important things every new puppy owner needs to know, including:

🐾 Basic puppy care and what to expect as your puppy grows
🐾 Tips and information to help you raise a happy, healthy puppy
🐾 Basic training and practical skills
🐾 Puppy socialisation and appropriate play
🐾 Opportunities for your puppy to meet and interact with other puppies

Our classes are mainly information-based, with a mix of basic skills and supervised puppy play — making them ideal for first-time pet owners or anyone wanting a little extra guidance with their new family member.

📅 4 classes — 1 class per week
🗓️ Monday evenings OR Saturday mornings
📍 Blakes Tiver Road Veterinary Centre

💉 To participate in Puppy School, puppies must have received their first vaccination prior to attending.

🐾 THE STORY OF PADDINGTON 🐾

Meet Paddington, a special 7-year-old Pug.

When Paddington was just 10 months old, his owners noticed that he was progressively losing the use of his hind legs. CT revealed that he had a kyphosis (abnormal curvature of upper spine) causing compression of his spinal cord.

Paddington underwent spinal surgery with Dr Fui (specialist surgeon), where pins and wire were placed to successfully stabilise his spine.

Fast-forward to last month, and Paddington’s owners noticed that he had started limping on his right front leg. His condition progressed very quickly, and he soon lost the ability to bend his neck and use his right front and right hind legs.

His owners acted quickly and brought him to our clinic for X-rays. It was discovered that the right side pin had broken and migrated towards his neck.

We contacted Dr Fui (specialist surgeon) at The Austin Vet specialist, who discussed the possibility that the migrated pin was contributing to Paddington’s neurological signs. With careful instruction from Dr Fui, Dr Julia and Nurse Courtney successfully removed the displaced pin the following day.

Within just a few weeks, Paddington was walking again on four legs. 💕

Paddington’s case is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when dedicated owners, general practice veterinarians and specialists work together to provide the best possible care for a patient.

Naughty Moose! 🫎🐾

Moose wasn’t feeling quite like himself, so his family brought him in for a check-up. Knowing he has a history of snacking on things that definitely aren’t food, we took an X-ray… and sure enough, there was a foreign object sitting in his stomach!

The good news? We were able to safely retrieve it using an endoscope, avoiding the need for surgery.

The culprit? A scrunchie! 🤦‍♀️💜

Moose is now on the road to recovery and feeling much better.

Pets can be surprisingly creative when it comes to finding things to eat! If your pet has swallowed something they shouldn’t, don’t wait for symptoms to become severe—contact your veterinarian as soon as possible. Early treatment can often make all the difference.

Let’s all wish Moose a speedy recovery!
