South Australians Bridie Armour and Ben Chapman are tackling an environmental challenge in an unexpected way—creating dog treats from invasive European carp.

Launched in 2024, their initiative not only repurposes a species that has long plagued the Murray River but also gives back with a portion of profits supporting revegetation efforts and the reintroduction of native fish.

“Our role is about raising awareness, so many people my age don’t even know what carp are,” Ms Armour said.

To date, the team’s “carp counter” estimates they’ve removed around 2,000 carp from the river—turning an environmental problem into a conversation starter.
