I feel like I’m seeing more and more dogs these days with separation and codependency issues. Not just with my own clientele, but just in the general dog world. Anyone else?

It’s why I’m so big on teaching your dog to exist away from you sometimes. Building an independent dog doesn’t mean they care about you any less, it just means they don’t need to be glued to your side 24/7.

That’s a good thing for both of you. Trust me.

I know these things might be easier said than done for some people.

If you’ve ever said “my dog’s just got small dog syndrome”, this is a bit of a reality check for you.

Most of the dogs I work with are medium to large breeds, but that’s not because small dogs don’t need training...

If anything, they often need it just as much, sometimes more, because so much of what would get addressed immediately in a bigger dog gets excused in a small one. ( I find this for Goldies too - they’re so pretty and nice natured, they get away with SO MUCH)

Training, at its core, isn’t really about ‘fixing’ bad behaviour, it’s a kindness that gives a dog the skills and confidence to navigate the world. It gives them outlets and a more stable mental and emotional state.

Small dogs deserve that same kindness, even if it’s easier to pick them up and carry them through life.

So small dog owners, are you training your dog?!

Here’s a very black & white explanation of the different ways you can train dogs.

I don’t think dog training and pregnancy/childbirth are compared to each other too often, but here we are. 😅

Dog training is bloody confusing, so more often than not the easiest way to explain things is by talking a language people DO understand.

Our boutique, kennel-free environment takes a lot of stress out of the boarding experience for dogs… but none of that matters if your dog can’t bear to be away from you.

So if you’re interested in our boarding, I’ll need you to be able to tick these boxes off first.

It doesn’t need to happen overnight, but it’ll make a huge difference in how seamless the transition is for everyone. Our boarding is worth making small changes for. I promise they will come home happy!

Anyone who doesn’t talk to their dog like a one person hype squad is lying or very different to me. Trainers out there telling you not to baby talk… 🤷 but I can’t help it when he sits in the sun like this.

What an amazing turnout for our recent Cafe Manners Club!

We had 16 dogs over the 2 sessions. We went through 4 seasons in weather but everyone attended with a great attitude.

It’s always great to see owners wanting to do more with their dogs, even if that ‘more’ is simply relaxing and existing calmly in public settings. We saw a lot of new faces, sizes and personalities too! Sometimes I think a more relaxed atmosphere helps people take in information at a different pace. My classes always leave time for a joke or 10 and any questions.

We try to host these sessions monthly, will you be joining us for our next coffee date? Comment below if you want us to save you a seat! Date TBA.
