Running a kennel-free, home environment for your dog means we can only take on a small number of dogs at a time. We pride ourselves on the quality and care that goes into caring for every dog, and that is not something we are willing to sacrifice to accommodate more numbers.

This means that our books fill up pretty quick, with the end of June filling up and most of July booked out already.

If you’ve got trips planned for the second half of the year, now’s the time to secure your dog’s spot in our boutique boarding environment before they’re all gone!
Head to our website to enquire about your dates!

When launched dates for a Bali business retreat, the first thing that came to mind was HELLOOO TAX DEDUCTION. Better deduction than poo bags and prime 100 rolls 🤣

Jokes aside, this was 4 days of mindset, marketing, self development and a visit to Hope for Bali Dogs Rescue. Pet industry professionals from all over the world in one room. This was a first for me and something I’d love to do again. I shared a beautiful villa with Erin from who is a dog and a naturopath! So many questions sent her way and a true connection on both a personal and business level.

Duke and I did our GRC Sports SR1 trial recently. For those who aren’t sure what GRC is, it’s basically a structured obedience and control assessment for dogs.

We didn’t get our pass, but we weren’t far off! I thought we’d bombed it early on.

Duke woke up and forgot how to go into the middle position…  We all have those days where we wake up in a weird mood or just not in the zone. I will admit, I havnt been putting too much time into training him of late.

The main thing I took away from the day is that I’ve been rushing him and recommanding him before giving him the breathing room to actually put what he knows into practice. That’s on me, not him, I’m letting the team down 🤣

We used to train with before we moved, and we haven’t done much since… we definitely felt that gap on the day!

Being in a trial environment it was set up much different to our regular training sessions and there were more people watching that Duke is used to.

If you’ve ever had a trial, comp, or even just a training session where your dog woke up on the wrong side of the bed, tell me about it in the comments! Dogs aren’t robots, even when we might wish they were 🫠

I see people make this mistake all the time. They mean well. In fact, they probably don’t even realise they’re doing it!

The mistake is this:

Repeating your cues.

Has it ever taken your dog 3 tries before they’ve actually sat when you’ve asked?

Maybe you’ve repeated yourself because you thought your dog didn’t hear you, or because you weren’t clear enough.

But in doing so, your dog is learning that the first cue doesn’t matter. They don’t actually have to sit until you say it 3 times. The cue isn’t “sit”. It’s “Sit. Siiiiiit. SIT!”.

So instead of teaching your dog to wait until the last cue before they follow… give the cue once.

If they don’t respond, help them succeed by guiding them with their leash or resetting the situation. Don’t repeat yourself over and over.

Clear communication makes training much easier for dogs to understand, and once you nail that, you’ll progress so much more!

Things I’d tell you as a dog wedding chaperone if I wasn’t afraid to hurt your feelings 👀

Your dog does NOT want to sit in the front row. They don’t know you’re getting married, but what they do know is there are a lot of people, a lot of noise, and a lot to take in. The front row is overwhelming, let them be somewhere they can settle!

Skip the real flowers. They wilt within an hour, move around way too much, and honestly they’re just not practical!

PLEASE work on some impulse control before the day! Trying to get a good photo with a dog that is constantly wriggling around is so difficult. If you want the best photos, do a little prep work to make sure your dog is ready for the big day. If you’re unsure where to start, we have a range of training options at Adelaide Dog Co.

A little prep can go a long way in making sure you and your dog have a truly amazing experience on the big day.

Did you have your dog at your wedding or know someone who did? I’d love to hear how it went! 👇🏼
