Love love owners who show up with the right mindset from day 1!

Trust, patience, and realistic expectations are what really move the needle with training, and understanding that from the start is where progress will happen.

Here are some things I love to hear from my clients and if you think there’s something there you vibe with we could be on 😆

It’s easy to compare you and your dog with ones you see online or even in public, but it’s important to remember that they didn’t start there.

You see dogs at cafes, on off-leash adventures, and walking calmly on walks and think “I wish I could do that with my dog.”

But what you don’t see when you’re watching these ‘perfect’ dogs are the weeks, months, even years of training it took to get there.

What you don’t see are the days of frustration, maybe even a few tears along the way, and a lot of unglamorous repetition.

If your dog pulls on the lead like a freight train, or loses it at other dogs, or forgets everything they know the second there’s a distraction, that’s not a failure.

It’s just your Chapter 1.

Stop comparing your beginning to someone else’s after and start writing your own story.

Share this with someone who needs a reminder.

These are just some things I wish every dog owner knew.

Tell me what I’ve missed - what’s one thing you wish someone told you earlier?

Crating isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but it is something I swear by and it’s a huge part of how Adelaide Dog Co is run!

From decompression and downtime, to safety AND training, there are so many reasons to teach your dog this skill.

Even if your dog doesn’t sleep in a crate every night, it’s better to have them crate trained and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Just think if they need to stay overnight at the vet… they’ll likely be kept in a crate-like environment and already being familiar with it will make a stressful situation less stressful for them. If they have a surgery and they need to be kept on bed rest etc

And if it’s the wire ‘cage’ you don’t like, you can get covers or even fancy wooden crates to fit your aesthetic.

Am I the only one who has copped criticism about crating dogs?! Let me know your experiences. We’re all in this together, and I will die on this hill being a pro crater! So p**s of to all of the Karen’s that call in a cage and don’t vibe. You don’t need to follow along here hehe.

Lots of people ‘love dogs’, and anyone can say they're ‘good’ with them, but it's a different thing entirely to know how to read one, manage them around a hundred strangers in an unfamiliar place, and step in before a situation even becomes one.

That's the difference between asking a friend to hold the lead for the day and hiring someone trained for it.

We’re not just picking them up, dropping them off, and holding their lead. We’re watching body language, managing things that might set them off, keeping them calm, and handling whatever comes up so you're not thinking about any of it on the one day you really shouldn't have to.

If you want your dog for your wedding and properly looked after, not just supervised, let’s have a chat and work out how it could look for you.

Dogs that stay with us don’t just get looked after, they get immersed in our life and enjoy all the creature comforts of home!

That’s why we keep numbers small and don’t have room for every dog.

If you’re looking for your dog’s home away from home, enquire for our Dog Sitting via link in bio.
