Our girl is homeāand she came through with flying colours. š¤
Marleyās incision is much longer than I expected, but our vet needed to remove a larger area to give her the best chance of clear margins.
She is now home, comfortable and absolutely lapping up all the spoiling.
In true Marley fashion, she even brought me her lead and was ready for a walk. Her mind tells her she could walk for miles, but her body isnāt quite on the same page! We made it half a block for some fresh air and a change of scenery, then came straight homeāand she is now happily tucked back into bed.
Since sharing Marleyās story, Hayley has let me know that her beautiful girl Amara went in for surgery yesterday for the same thing. Weāll be keeping them both very close in our thoughts as unfortunately, she has a long road ahead.
We often see and hear about sun-related skin cancers affecting dogsā noses and ears, but the tummy can easily be overlooked. Areas with very little hairāparticularly pale or lightly pigmented skināhave far less natural protection from the sun.
Please take a moment to check your dogās tummy, groin and other sparsely haired areas. A sore that doesnāt heal, a crusty patch, a changing mark or something that simply doesnāt look right deserves attention. Marleyās began as a small sore that refused to heal.
And for everyone who has asked about our sunscreen: it will be based on the same formula we released last summer, with a few thoughtful tweaks. Once we have gathered the ingredients and put everything together, weāll let you know.
For now, thank you for every message, comment and kind thought sent Marleyās way. Our tough old girl is home, she is comfortableāand she is being thoroughly spoilt. Just as she should be. š¤
