When a “simple infection” is not so simple…

Mimi, a female Ringneck, came to us in a very serious condition. She was weak, dehydrated, with diarrhea, respiratory distress, and clear signs that something systemic was happening.

Initial tests showed a severe bacterial infection, and we immediately started antibiotics and supportive care.

However, despite the treatment, some signs were not improving as expected — especially the abnormal urates and persistent diarrhea.

That’s when we decided to go deeper.
Blood tests revealed significant organ involvement and an important inflammatory response.

Based on the clinical picture and lab findings, we suspected Chlamydiosis (Psittacosis) — a disease that is often underdiagnosed, but can be very serious.

Once we started the specific treatment, Mime responded beautifully, improving day by day.

⚠️ Why this case matters?

Chlamydiosis is not just a disease of birds — it is a zoonosis, meaning it can be transmitted to humans.

In birds, it can cause:

• Respiratory signs
• Diarrhea and abnormal urates
• Lethargy
• Liver involvement
• Sudden worsening without clear cause
In humans, it may lead to flu-like symptoms, pneumonia, eye infection and systemic illness — especially if not diagnosed early.

✅ What should you do?

If your bird shows any signs of illness, do not wait.

Early diagnosis can be life-saving — for your bird and for you.

And remember: not all infections are what they seem at first!!!!

Two days ago, I experienced one of the most important moments of my life — and a very special day for pet birds across the United Arab Emirates.
was created to be a veterinary clinic dedicated exclusively to our pet birds.

This dream began almost 20 years ago, when I was just a young graduate with a dream that seemed almost impossible. The journey was long, difficult, and often painful, but also filled with stories of resilience, hope, and small miracles. Along this path, I had the privilege of being used as an instrument of care and healing for these winged beings who fill the skies and our lives with beauty and joy, yet still suffer in silence without proper help in many parts of the world.
Today, this dream has become reality and it was not built alone.

I would like to deeply thank my partners and my team, who believed in this project from the beginning; my wife and my kids, who stood by my side and supported me through every challenge; the professional partners ( , , , ) and .khattab.vet who support me and trusted this vision; and, most importantly, my clients, for their trust throughout all these years.

And a very special thank you to my feathered patients because in truth, it is not only me saving your lives… you save mine every single day.
