Fireworks season has started in the UAE, with Global Village, Diwali, National Day and New Year celebrations coming up. Loud bangs can be really frightening for dogs and cats.

5 signs of firework fear:
1️⃣ Trembling or shaking
2️⃣ Hiding under beds or furniture
3️⃣ Panting, pacing or drooling
4️⃣ Barking, howling or meowing
5️⃣ Trying to run away or escape

How to help:
✅ Walk dogs before dark and bring cats indoors early
✅ Close curtains and play TV or music
✅ Set up a cosy hide-out (covered crate, bed or blanket den)
✅ Keep doors shut and ID tags on, with microchip details up to date
✅ Stay calm, and talk to your vet about calming support if needed

Your pet could cost you Dh1,000 😳🐾

Abu Dhabi pet parents: the grace period ended on 3 Feb 2026, and fines for unregistered cats and dogs are now in force (Dh1,000 per pet, Dh2,000 for abandoning a pet).

The good news: registration is FREE for individual owners and takes one visit to a licensed vet.
1️⃣ Bring your pet, Emirates ID, an active UAE Pass and vaccination records
2️⃣ The vet scans or implants a microchip and checks vaccinations
3️⃣ The vet registers your pet on TAMM and you get an official ownership certificate
