This is Zoey. A Chow Chow we absolutely adore. ❤️

And somehow, Zoey missed the memo about being a Chow Chow. She doesn’t want to bite anyone, has zero aggression, and is, quite simply, a sweetheart. Chow Chows are beautiful but complicated dogs — strong characters who usually need experienced owners and are not always the easiest family dogs.

Unfortunately, nature wasn’t quite as generous with Zoey’s body as it was with her heart.

She came with a few “design flaws” — hip dysplasia, an elongated soft palate and secondary CCT — and they have caused this beautiful girl more trouble than she deserves.

But then nature made up for it by giving her the most incredible humans.

Humans who adore her, ridiculously overspoil her, worry about her, fight for her and have gone above and beyond, again and again, to give her the best life possible.

So now we have a mission.

One by one, we’re going to try to fix those little design mistakes and help this beautiful bear live the life she deserves — comfortable, happy, loved and, of course, completely spoiled. ❤️

Dobermans already have a significant genetic predisposition to Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). Certain grain-free diets have also been associated with diet-related DCM in dogs.

For a breed whose heart is already vulnerable, why add another potential risk?

Stenotic Nostrils: Not Just a Frenchie Feature 🐶💨

Those tiny, narrow nostrils commonly seen in French Bulldogs and other brachycephalic breeds are not normal. They restrict airflow and force these dogs to work harder with every breath, contributing to Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS).

When stenotic nostrils are significant, surgical correction is a necessity, not a cosmetic procedure. Improving airflow early can reduce the strain on the rest of the airway and significantly improve quality of life.

Choosing a brachycephalic breed also comes with a responsibility: we must be prepared to address the anatomical problems they are born with rather than accepting difficult breathing as "normal for the breed."

They didn't choose their anatomy. We choose the breed, and it is our responsibility to help them breathe comfortably. 🐾

Lymphoma in Dogs

Lymphoma is one of the more common cancers in dogs and primarily affects the lymphatic system and lymph nodes.

One of the most noticeable signs is enlarged, usually painless, lymph nodes. In some cases, lymph nodes can increase dramatically in size over a very short period, sometimes seemingly overnight.

Dogs may otherwise appear completely well, or they may develop weight loss, reduced appetite, lethargy, or other symptoms.

The good news is that lymphoma can often respond very well to treatment, helping many dogs maintain a good quality of life.

If you suddenly notice large lumps under your dog's jaw, in front of the shoulders or behind the knees, don't wait - have them checked.

Why does my white dog have red tear stains?

Those reddish-brown marks around the eyes are usually caused by porphyrins, naturally occurring pigments found in tears and saliva. When tears repeatedly wet light colored fur, these pigments can build up and become much more noticeable.

But excessive staining can also be a clue. 👀 Increased tearing may be associated with allergies, eye irritation, blocked tear ducts, eyelid or eyelash problems, or infection.

If the staining suddenly gets worse, is only on one side, or comes with redness, discharge, squinting or discomfort, it is worth having the eyes checked.

Because sometimes those little red stains are more than just a cosmetic issue. 🐾

🐶 What's the right age to spay or neuter your dog? It may not be what you've always heard.

For years, the advice was simple: spay females before the first season (especially small breeds) or just after the first season for larger breeds.

Today, we know it's **not a one-size-fits-all decision**.

S*x hormones play an important role in growth and development. Depending on your dog's **breed, size, and s*x**, the ideal age for spaying or neutering can vary significantly. For some breeds, timing has been linked to the risk of certain joint disorders and even specific cancers.

The best time to spay or neuter your dog should be an **individual decision**, not a routine one.

Ever wondered why your cat always seems to choose the rug when it's time to vomit?

It's not because they're trying to annoy you.

Cats often prefer carpets and rugs because they provide better grip during the abdominal contractions of vomiting. The texture may also feel more comfortable than slippery floors.

But here's the important part:

🚩 **Cats should not be vomiting regularly.**

An occasional hairball may be normal, but **vomiting more than twice a month is not** and warrants a veterinary visit.

Frequent vomiting can be associated with:
• Hairballs
• Food intolerance
• Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
• Parasites
• Chronic pancreatitis
• Cholangitis/cholecystitis
• Triaditis (a combination of intestinal, pancreatic, and liver/biliary inflammation)
• Kidney disease
• Hyperthyroidism
• Gastrointestinal lymphoma
• And many other medical conditions

One of the most common phrases we hear is: *"My cat has always vomited."*

The reality is that chronic vomiting is often a sign of underlying disease and should never simply be accepted as "normal cat behaviour."

So yes, your cat may choose the rug for practical reasons—but if they're vomiting more than twice a month, it's time to investigate why.
