Do we become allergic to something the very first time we touch or eat it? Usually no. That is a common myth.

Allergies often develop after repeated exposure — to the things we meet again and again. The immune system learns, then overreacts.

The same can happen in pets. That is why some of the most common food allergies are linked to chicken and beef, simply because these proteins are present in so many pet foods.

But food is only one chapter of the story. Pets can also become allergic to their environment and itch endlessly because of it. This is known as atopic dermatitis.

Common triggers may include:
• Dust mites
• Pollen
• Fungi / molds
• Even organisms that normally live on their own skin

Sometimes the itch is not from something new — but from something familiar.

Sorry, not sorry — we have the prettiest and smartest reception team, don’t we? 🤍

From Sally (and her ongoing mission to secretly feed our very overweight clinic Louie 😅) to the ever-lovely Shanelle — our front desk is where warmth meets efficiency.

They are the first smile you see, the calm voice when things feel stressful, and the quiet force keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

To our incredible reception team — you are truly the heart of Panacea Vets 🐾

How often should I treat my cat for intestinal parasites? 🐱

There is no one-size-fits-all answer. It depends on your cat’s lifestyle, age, and level of exposure.

✨ **Indoor-only adult cats:** often every **6-12 months**, depending on risk.
✨ **Outdoor cats / hunters / multi-pet households:** usually every **3 months** is recommended.
✨ **Kittens:** need monthly treatments until they reach 6 months.
✨ **Cats with higher exposure risks:** may need a stricter schedule.

The best parasite plan is a personalised one — ask us what suits your cat best.

Cystitis in cats is a world of its own — a subject we could speak about endlessly.

It can be behavioral, stress-related, environmental, or linked to true physical disease. It is also one of the clearest reminders that stress can create very real physical suffering in cats too. The mind and body are never truly separate.

A cat may not cry with words, but the bladder often speaks loudly.

⚠️ A gentle warning for every home with paws and whiskers ⚠️

When chemicals enter a home, curious noses are often the first to find them.
Freshly treated floors, hidden corners, lingering droplets — all can become danger for the pets who trust that home completely.

If you arrange pest control, let your pets stay away for at least 24 hours. Especially dogs, who explore the world through scent, tongue, and touch.

Maple and Zorro returned home only 3 hours after treatment. Soon after came vomiting, diarrhea, and distress. They spent 2 days in our clinic before health returned to their bright eyes and wagging tails.

A few extra hours of caution can spare days of suffering.

Better safe than sorry.

☀️ Heatstroke can happen fast — and become fatal even faster.

If your pet is panting heavily, weak, vomiting, collapsing, or unusually quiet, this is an emergency.

Shade, water, air conditioning, and avoiding midday walks can save lives.

**Extra caution with anything short-nosed** — Pugs, English bulldogs, Frenchies, Persians, Shihtzus, a nd similar breeds are at much higher risk, as cooling themselves is harder for them.

Dubai heat is no joke.

Today we celebrate International Labour Day — and the hands, hearts, and minds that keep the world moving.

At Panacea Vets, this day belongs to every member of our team: the veterinarians, nurses, receptionists, groomers, handlers, cleaners, drivers, and every quiet hero working behind the scenes for the wellbeing of animals.

Caring is beautiful work, but it is still work — demanding, skilled, emotional, and deeply meaningful.

To our team, and to workers everywhere: thank you for what you give each day.

Happy International Labour Day. 🤍🐾

Useless info of the week 🐾

Cats have a compound in their urine called felinine… and yes, it’s one of the reasons it smells so strong.

👉 Fun fact:
Tomcats (non-neutered males) produce much more felinine than others — that’s why their urine is especially pungent.

But here’s the important part:

⚠️ If your cat’s urine suddenly becomes very smelly (and it wasn’t before), this is NOT normal.

It can be a sign of a urinary tract infection or other urinary issues.

👉 Don’t ignore the smell — it’s your cat’s way of telling you something is wrong.

Better safe than sorry.
