Every patient deserves every possible chance. 💙🦎
This remarkable uromastyx recently underwent a highly specialized eye procedure performed by Dr. Piotr. Faced with the possibility of losing the eye, the decision was made to explore every safe and reasonable option before considering eye removal.
The procedure focused on treating the meibomian glands—the tiny oil-producing glands along the eyelids that help keep the eye healthy and prevent the tear film from evaporating too quickly. During surgery, the blocked meibomian glands were successfully reopened, although a few severely damaged glands had to be removed. The surgery was smooth, virtually bloodless, and our resilient little patient tolerated the anaesthesia exceptionally well.
Now comes the most important part—healing. Over the coming days and weeks, we’ll be closely monitoring tear production, eye function, and overall recovery. Our patient will remain under our care until the healing process is complete.
Cases like these remind us why veterinary medicine is both a science and an art. Sometimes, innovation, experience, and determination come together to give an animal the best possible chance.
Please keep our little desert warrior in your thoughts and join us in hoping for a full recovery. ❤️🦎
