Rupert update 🧡🐱

Look who’s starting to open his eyes! 👀🥹

Our tiniest team member continues to go from strength to strength.

When Rupert was found alone on the street, he weighed just 85 grams and was only around a day old.

Now those tiny numbers just keep climbing…

85 g → 95 g → 104 g → 111 g → 124 g → 134 g → 152 g → 164 g 🧡

His eyes are beginning to open, his appetite is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down, and his personality is starting to appear too!

He still needs milk around the clock, so Rupert comes into Dr Well during the day where our nursing team takes over his feeds while Dr Sarah is consulting and operating — then he heads home with her for the night shift. 🍼😴

At this age, every little milestone feels enormous.

Gaining weight ✔️
Feeding enthusiastically ✔️
Eyes beginning to open ✔️
Getting increasingly demanding when his bottle is late ✔️😂

Neonatal kittens remain incredibly vulnerable and we never take their progress for granted, but Rupert is doing everything we could hope for.

From a tiny 85 g newborn with an uncertain future to this increasingly chunky little boy discovering the world around him.

Keep growing, Rupert. We can’t wait to you go from strength to strength. 🧡🐾

Tiny paws, big feelings 🥹🐾

Meet Missy, our gorgeous 7-week-old tortie, having a very serious kneading-and-suckling session on her bed. 🤎🧡🖤

Kneading is a behaviour kittens learn from birth — they knead around their mum’s mammary glands while nursing to help stimulate milk flow. Some kittens continue to knead, suckle on blankets or beds, and purr long after they’ve started eating independently.

It’s often a little comfort ritual, particularly in kittens who have been separated from their mum at a young age. 💕

As long as they aren’t actually eating the fabric, it’s generally nothing to worry about.

Missy clearly thinks this bed is doing an excellent impression of Mum. 😂🥹

🐱 International Cat Day 🐱

Today we’re celebrating some of our very favourite patients — the cats. 🤍

The tiny kittens we’ve watched grow.
The brave ones we’ve nursed through illness and injury.
The spicy ones who make their feelings VERY clear. 🌶️😂
The street cats who somehow find their way to exactly the right person.
And the much-loved family cats we’re privileged to care for throughout their lives.

But today we also want to shine a little light on the cats who are still waiting for a family of their own. 🏡

We see so many incredible cats through rescue — kittens, adults, confident cats, shy cats, lap cats and complete little characters — and every one of them deserves the security of knowing they’re finally home.

So this International Cat Day, if you’ve been thinking about adding a cat to your family, perhaps consider adopting one who is already waiting. ❤️

And if adoption isn’t possible, fostering, sharing a post or supporting a local rescuer can make a bigger difference than you realise.

Happy International Cat Day to every cat we’ve had the privilege of caring for. 🐾🐱

Welcome to the world, Rupert. 🧡🤍

Meet Rupert, a tiny ginger and white kitten who was brought to us at one day old.

Sadly, Rupert found himself without the mum he desperately needed. At only a day old, kittens cannot regulate their own body temperature, feed themselves or even toilet without help, making the first few weeks of life incredibly critical.

For now, Rupert has gone home with Dr Sarah, where he’ll receive around-the-clock care. That means bottle feeding every 2–3 hours, keeping him warm, helping him toilet, daily weight checks and lots of love.

Hand-rearing a neonatal kitten is one of the most challenging parts of rescue medicine. Despite the best care, these tiny babies can deteriorate very quickly, so every feed, every gram gained and every day that passes is a milestone worth celebrating.

We’re hopeful that Rupert has a bright future ahead of him, and we’ll be sharing updates as he grows. Thank you to everyone who supports our rescue work—it allows kittens like Rupert to be given the chance they deserve.

Welcome to the Dr Well family, Rupert. We’re all rooting for you. 🧡🐾

🐱❤️ Could your dog be waiting for a friend like Sarah?

When people think about adopting a kitten, one of the biggest worries is often, “But we have a dog…”

The truth is that, with the right dog, careful introductions, patience and supervision, many cats and dogs can form wonderful friendships.

Sarah is living proof. 🥹

After everything she’s been through, she’s learned that dogs don’t have to be scary—and now she loves to play, explore and share her home with her canine friend.

If you’re introducing a cat and dog:
🐾 Take things slowly.
🐾 Always supervise their interactions.
🐾 Give your cat plenty of safe spaces to retreat to.
🐾 Reward calm, positive behaviour from both.
🐾 Let the cat set the pace.

Of course, not every cat and dog will be the right match, and that’s perfectly okay. Every animal is an individual.

💛 Sarah is now looking for her forever home. She is playful, affectionate and full of character, and we’d love to find her a family where she can continue to thrive.

If you think Sarah could be the missing piece of your family, please get in touch with us. She might just be your dog’s new best friend. 🐶🐱
