“My pet stays indoors — do they really need parasite prevention?” 🐾

It’s a question we hear often.

Even indoor pets can be exposed to parasites. Fleas can enter the home on people or other animals, mosquitoes don’t stop at the front door, and some intestinal parasites can be picked up in ways owners may not expect.

The right prevention depends on your pet’s lifestyle, age, travel history and individual risk — there isn’t necessarily a one-size-fits-all approach.

Pet weight can creep up surprisingly easily, and because we see our pets every day, gradual changes can be difficult to notice.

A healthy weight isn't about appearance — it can affect mobility, joints and your pet's overall wellbeing.

One simple thing we assess during examinations is Body Condition Score (BCS), which looks at your pet's body shape and how easily their ribs can be felt.

Because sometimes that's exactly where our patient feels safest.

Not every pet needs to be placed on an examination table. Some dogs are much more comfortable being examined on the floor, while others need a little extra time before they're ready to interact.

Our veterinary and nursing team continually monitors our patients, administers prescribed medications, checks comfort levels, provides food and fluids when appropriate and keeps the veterinarian updated on their progress.

And there's something else that doesn't appear on a medical chart:

Designed for routine health screening and includes a comprehensive blood profile to assess important health markers and organ function.

Designed for our older patients, with additional testing tailored to health changes we’re more likely to see as pets age.

Did you know cats can have heart disease without showing obvious symptoms? 🐱🩺

Cats are experts at hiding illness, and some heart conditions may be present even when your cat seems completely well.

During a routine examination, your vet listens to the heart for changes such as a heart murmur, abnormal rhythm or unusually fast heart rate. Depending on the findings, further investigation may be recommended.

At Vets & Pets, we have on-site ultrasound and a veterinary cardiac specialist, allowing us to investigate further with an echocardiogram and detailed cardiac assessment when needed.
