One morning I stood in the pen watching my pigs eat, and something caught my eye.

While the others were attacking the feed like it was their last meal on earth, one pig was just there… chewing slowly like it had all the time in the world.

At first I ignored it. Maybe it was just having a quiet morning.

But two weeks later, the difference became obvious. That pig was still smaller than the rest. Same pen. Same feed. Same water. Yet somehow it looked like it missed the growth meeting everyone else attended.

That’s when I realized something every livestock farmer eventually notices:

In every batch of pigs, there’s always that one or two that grow like they’re on holiday.

Let’s talk about how to identify slow-growing pigs early and what to do about it, before they quietly start eating your profit.

The first sign is usually size difference. If some pigs in the same group begin to look noticeably smaller than their mates, don’t just assume they’ll catch up later. Sometimes they don’t.
