Managing January Disease in Cattle (Theileriosis)

During high-risk rainy periods, many experts recommend an intensive dipping regime (dip on day 1, day 5 and day 9) to break the tick life cycle.

Make sure your dip tank is at the correct concentration; rainwater can dilute the mixture, making it ineffective against tough ticks.
Ticks love hidden spots like the inside of ears and under the tail. Consider hand-dressing these areas with tick grease for extra protection.

Avoid moving cattle from known "hot zones" to clean areas, as this is the fastest way to spread the disease to a healthy herd.
If possible, clear tall grass around high-traffic areas like water troughs and kraals where ticks love to congregate.
