Dentals. We love and hate them. Often neglected, and often the cause of so much more than ‘smelly breath’. Dental disease has been linked strongly to kidney disease as well as heart disease. And on top of all those, we have the chronic pain and irritation the pets lives through. They are so much happier with clean, sparkly teeth. Some breeds are more prone to dental disease than others. So when in doubt, pop into your local vet and ask them to have a look, feel and smell and let’s see if we can get the spring back in your pets step!

Happy Friday everyone! Hope we are all taking advantage of the sunshine and milder days, even if the night time reminds us it is well into Autumn now.

These happy little pups were delivered by emergency C-Section by Dr Omar and his team. The client noticed that the “puppy bag” was out of the slightly distressed mother, but no signs of a puppy. A quick whatsapp convo with Dr Omar and he quickly identified a few areas of concern:
1.The mommy wasn’t having any contractions
2. The puppy sac was very dark (green/black)
3. It had been an hour since the client noticed the sac.

Dr Omar asked that momy be brought in for a quick check and assessment. When presented, mom dog was really not distressed at all, still wagging her tail, and clinically very normal. Quick ultrasound of her tummy showed a slightly different story. The pups heart rates had all dropped to alarmingly low rate. They were in distress.
Quick as a flash, we sprung into action. Quickly anaesthetised mom and Dr Omar had all six pups out via c-section within 15 minutes. Mom was closed up and awake within 35 minutes. Whilst mom was recovering, the pups received some oxygen, and we checked some basic reflexes and for any birth defects. Happily, all six pups were healthy and sound. And LOUD.
This is one of our favourite sounds. From the silence of the operating theatre to the noisy cacophony of the pups’ cries as they protest the new world!
Happily, mom and pups have continued to well.

⚠️ Important Store Update

At Petworld, we care deeply about the safety of our staff, customers, and your beloved pets. Due to dangerous weather conditions, all Petworld stores in and around Cape Town will close today at 12 pm.

Tomorrow, our Cape Town stores will trade from 9 am to 12 pm.

During this weather, please take extra care of your pets at home. Keep them indoors, warm, dry, and comfortable, especially during thunder and heavy rain. Make sure they have a cosy space to rest, fresh water nearby, and plenty of reassurance if they’re feeling anxious.

Where possible, avoid walks during severe weather, check that gates and fences are secure, and keep pets away from flooded areas, strong winds, and loud storm noise.

Thank you for your understanding and support during this time. Please stay safe, look after one another, and give your pets some extra love from us. 💙🐾

This update applies to the following stores: Petworld XXL: Cape Gate, N1 City, Diep River, Somerset West, and Seapoint Express.

Stay warm and cosy and shop from home at petworld.co.za.
