Not the kind of “hump day” you’re expecting… and definitely not the one I was prepared for! 🙃

Hu***ng isn’t always about what you think it is. While intact males may hump due to hormones, neutered males (and even females!) can also do it. Before you burst out laughing, let’s talk about what is actually going on in your mutt’s mind. 👇🏼

😜 Excitement Overload! Some dogs get so hyped during playtime or greetings that they start hu***ng as a way to release energy. Think of it like zoomies… just a little more ‘bumpy’.

😥 Stress or Anxiety. If your pup is feeling overwhelmed, they might hump as a way to self-soothe. It’s like a doggy stress ball; awkward, but harmless!

🥎 Play Behaviour. Dogs sometimes hump during play to establish social bonds. It’s not always about dominance; some just get carried away in the moment.

🏥 Medical Reasons? In rare cases, excessive hu***ng could indicate a urinary tract infection, skin irritation, or other health concerns. If it suddenly becomes obsessive, a vet check is a good idea!

Now the big question is… should you stop it? Most of the time, hu***ng is totally normal and nothing to worry about! However, if your dog is fixating on it or bothering other dogs, it’s best to redirect their attention with a toy or command.

We’ve covered the Puppy 101, but now it’s time for the brand-new “SENIOR SERIES”. Many owners aren’t sure when their dog officially becomes a senior, and how to adjust their routines and lifestyle to best fit their old doggy’s needs. 💖

In today’s topic: How To Tell When Your Pooch Is Growing Old Gracefully 👵🏼✨

1️⃣ Gray Hairs Are Appearing!
Just like us, dogs start to get those cute little gray hairs as they age! It’s the sign of wisdom and experience (and maybe a few extra naps). You might notice it around their muzzle first.

2️⃣ Slower Movements & More Napping!
Your pup might not be chasing squirrels like they used to, slow walks and afternoon naps are now the vibe. Let them sleep! After all, they’ve earned it.

3️⃣ Appetite Changes!
As dogs age, they might start to eat less or have different food preferences. You might need to adjust their diet, or maybe they’re just too busy lounging to finish their meals.

4️⃣ Stiff Joints!
Just like us, dogs can feel the wear and tear on their joints. If you notice limping, stiffness, or trouble jumping up, it might be time to add in some joint-friendly treats or even talk to your vet about options!

5️⃣ Less Playing, More Napping!
That ball you used to toss 100 times? Now it’s more like a casual “I’ll roll it to you, but no promises” situation. Senior pups often love snuggling and gentle petting more than playtime.

The Truth About Tennis Balls 🎾

Let’s get real - tennis balls and dogs are like peanut butter and jelly, right? A match made in tail-wagging heaven. But (and yes, there’s a but), too much of a good thing isn’t always good. So, while tennis balls are fine for the occasional game of fetch, here’s why they shouldn’t become your pup’s one true love.

1. They’re basically doggy chewing gum (and not in a good way)… 🦷 The outer fuzzy layer on tennis balls is actually abrasive, like sandpaper for your dog’s teeth! Over time, constant chewing can wear down enamel, leading to dental issues. Fetch = fun; dental bills = not so much.

2. A Choking Hazard ⚠️ For power chewers or large dogs, a tennis ball can quickly go from fun to frightening. If the ball gets punctured, it can collapse and become a choking hazard or even block your pup’s airway.

3. They’re not made for paws & jaws! 🐾 Tennis balls are designed for courts, not canines. They’re made with chemicals and dyes that might not be the safest if your dog decides to have a tennis ball snack (and let’s face it, some dogs absolutely will).

4. Obsession is NOT cute or healthy! 👎🏼 Some dogs become obsessed with tennis balls; like, “won’t-eat-or-sleep-without-it” obsessed. While it’s cute, it can lead to unhealthy fixation and even anxiety if the ball is taken away. Balance is key!

So, Should You Ban Tennis Balls Forever? Nope!
The good news? Tennis balls are totally fine for supervised playtime. Limit tennis ball play to a few short sessions instead of all day chomping-marathons, and always supervise your pup. 🐶

Your dog will always love chasing a tennis ball, but variety is the spice of life! Mix up their toy collection with durable chew toys, puzzle games, or a good ol’ rope toy. After all, the real MVP isn’t the tennis ball- it’s you, their favorite playmate. 🏀

So, go ahead and fetch those tennis balls for playtime, but keep it safe, keep it balanced, and keep having fun. 🎾✨

You’re about to watch your little fluffball grow (way too quickly 😭). Understanding their growth stages can help you know what’s normal, and what’s not. 🐾

0-2 Weeks: The Newborn Stage 🍼
At this stage, your puppy is basically a tiny bean with fur. They’re born blind, deaf, and pretty helpless- but don’t worry, they’re pros at sleeping and eating. If you’re adopting, this stage is usually handled by the momma dog or a breeder.

2-4 Weeks: The Transitional Stage 👀
Cue the awwws!!! They start opening their eyes, hearing sounds, and wobbling around like clumsy little explorers. Their personalities begin to peek through, and their tail wags for the first time (heart = melted).

4-12 Weeks: The Socialisation Stage 💬
Welcome to the most important stage in your puppy’s life! They’re learning how to interact with the world: meeting humans, other dogs, and figuring out that the vacuum isn’t a puppy-eating monster.

3-6 Months: The Juvenile Stage 🧸
Oh, hello, teenager. At this stage, your puppy is growing like a w**d (those paws are HUGE now, right?). They’re full of energy, curious about everything, and will probably test boundaries like a rebellious middle-schooler. Teething begins, they’re forgetting training they did JUST yesterday, and “don’t eat that” is about to become your new catchphrase.

6-18 Months: The Adolescence Stage 🎓
Congratulations, you’ve officially got a teenager. Expect moments of brilliance (they’ll sit perfectly for a treat) followed by moments of chaos (zoomies at midnight, anyone?). Hormones start kicking in, energy levels are off the charts, and they’re figuring out their place in your “pack”, so remain firm and consistent!

18-24 Months: The Young Adult 🎉
Congrats, your little rascal is officially growing up! They’re settling into their adult personality and are (finally) starting to chill out. You’ll see the well-behaved dog you’ve been working so hard to train emerge. They’ll still have puppy energy, but much more manageable, and would’ve formed a strong bond with you and trust you as their leader. This is when you’ll realize they’re not just your dog- they’re your best friend.
