Raw Necessities Established December 2009, Raw Necessities supplies raw meaty bones and raw products for your cats and dogs. We provide both whole products and minces.

Our minces are DAFF registered and our facility inspected and approved by DAFF After feeding our own dogs raw for a couple of years Raw Necessities was born December 2009 with the purchase of our first 500 kg capacity Derby freezer. In 2014 we became proud Melkbos locals and quietly went about our business providing a service for the DIY raw feeding market. As raw gained popularity amongst the gen

eral public at a later date we started manufacturing minces. In late 2023 the registration for our minces came through, but we opted to stick to complementary minces as seventeen years of feeding raw has brought along with it the lessons of how to provide raw food or minces without having to add synthetic multi vitamins and minerals to make it complete and “balanced”

Our entry level mince Beef&Chicken and Chicken mince is perfect for the mince raw feeder as it contains bone and organ and doesn’t require the customer to cut up to mix and match products. What we would however recommend is adding sardines or a good Omega 3 oil to the diet. The Beef, Sheep and Venison mince are for the more confident raw feeder and contains organs but requires adding additional edible bones of your choice. Dogs do need rip, gnaw and chew, to clean those teeth. The Just venison and pork mince are for those that prefer to add their own organs. And for those that prefer to do it all themselves we provide a wide selection of bits and pieces

Cats are obligate carnivores this means:

Missing Enzymes: Cats can't turn plant ingredients into the vitamins they need.

Protein Fuel: Their bodies run on protein; without it, they break down their own muscle.

Short Digestion: Their "plumbing" is too short to ferment or break down plant fiber.

Taurine Necessity: They must eat flesh to get Taurine, which prevents blindness and heart failure.

Hard-Wired: Evolution has "locked" their bodies into only processing animal tissue.

Research into the physicochemical properties of duck feet reveals a high protein and mineral content suitable for joint health:

Chondroitin and Glucosamine Content: Commercial nutritional analysis of duck feet indicates levels of approximately 200 mg of chondroitin and 500 mg of glucosamine per serving. For comparison, related poultry studies show that a single chicken foot can contain up to 450 mg of glucosamine.

Collagen Yield: Duck feet are a significant source of collagen. One study extracted collagen from duck feet using 5% lactic acid, achieving a yield of 28.37%.

Amino Acid Profile: Duck feet collagen contains 17 amino acids, notably high in glycine (20.46%), proline (10.24%), and hydroxyproline (7.73%), which are essential for connective tissue repair.

Who is NRC and does it effect the raw food that you feed. Is manganese and zinc lacking in the raw diet. Is supplementation required?
