Rest softy, Sir Gallagher đŸ€

I met Gally about five years ago, for his first physio session, and it certainly wasn’t love at first massage for him! He came from a tough past, before his mom Mags crossed his path, and was inherently distrustful and defensive towards anyone that wasn’t her.
However, over many years of monthly physio, and discussions about his boundaries, Gally decided I was allowed to be part of his inner circle, and in the process, he found such a huge place in my heart.
I was lucky enough to share many quiet moments, yawns, cuddles, and even little nickers when he saw me arrive for his sessions. And Gally always made sure it was one-on-one time, as no one was allowed to stand and watch or chat while I worked 😅
However, no one ever held a candle to the bond he had with his mom. Watching them do liberty work together, never failed to take your breath away. They were made for each other, and both always knew it.

I love all my patients as though they’re my own horses. But some of them just find a special place in my heart. Just a few days ago, I pointed him out to a friend and described him as “my favourite patient”. To be granted trust from a horse who doesn’t give it away freely, is such an honour, and I feel incredibly lucky to have been a small part of this horse’s long journey on earth.

Thank you for allowing me to be your friend Gally. You will be so missed.

Muscle Fasciculation- what does it mean?

Fasciculation is the rapid, involuntary “twitching” that is often seen during a physio session on your horse. Most noticeable over the back, but can be seen in other areas as well.
Fasciculation is commonly caused by palpation of a trigger point or spasm.
When a muscle is very tight or in a spasm, the nerves that control that muscle are not able to function normally, and often become “hyper reactive”. These muscle fasciculations are the nerves responding to the pressure stimulus.
BUT! Fasciculations are not a bad thing! They are an indication of muscle dysfunction, along with the overall tone of the muscle and the horse’s response, but the fasciculation also lets us know that the muscle is responding, and releasing tension. Usually, by the end of a session, these twitches should be almost or entirely resolved, and the muscle will feel softer and more relaxed.

Back in the swing of things for 2026!

Many horses benefit greatly from a physio session when coming out of their break, before getting back into full training. While holidays are vitally important for our horses, many start out a little tight and sore after a break, as a result of less movement, and certain areas weakening without consistent exercise and training.
Book a session now and make sure your horse is starting out the year on the best possible foot!
