This is the time to build each other up! Support local businesses like Meowch so we can give back to the animal community. Today we donated cat and dog food, as well as blankets, to the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA after it was looted this week. Taking food from the mouths of innocent animals is unjustifiable.

Meowch would like to do more with your help. We pledge to donate 5% of our monthly proceeds to a local animal shelter.

Are you thinking of adopting a cat from a shelter? There are some things you should be aware of, especially if you have other cats.

This is Astrid. We adopted her about 2 years ago when she was five years old.

When we first brought her home, we kept her on our enclosed bedroom balcony. She had lived in a small space for a very long time and was definitely overwhelmed, hiding immediately. Giving her a space, or territory, of her own helped her adapt from caged-living. We slowly gave her more space by opening the balcony door and giving her access to the rest of our bedroom, and eventually the rest of the house.

Remember she didn't know what a house was, having either lived outside or in a cage her whole life. She had to learn what glass was, and accidentally ran into our glass balcony doors before realising that she had to go around and not through. 🙀 She has since become a pro. 😸
