November and December bookings are already filling up.

The end of the year tends to get busy very quickly, especially once holiday plans start being confirmed.

People sometimes ask how I became so comfortable around so many different kinds of animals.

Honestly?

I live with animals. 😂

My own home has taught me just as much about patience, behaviour, routines and individual personalities as years of pet sitting have.

Because no two animals are the same.

One wants affection.

One wants space.

One wants your food.

One wants the exact seat you're currently sitting in.

And at least one is probably committing a crime somewhere suspiciously quietly.

Living with animals teaches you to notice the tiny things.

And I think that's one of the reasons this work became so much more than a side job for me.

Animals have always been part of my life.

Now caring for other people's animals has become a business I'm incredibly proud to be building too. ❤️🐾

When your dog is your biggest entertainment 🤣🤣🤣

It took him a whole walk around the pool (granted not clean) just to realize that the two geese who decided to come for a swim didn't belong there 🤣🤣🤣

There's a reason some pets cope better when they're cared for in their own home.

Their person may be away, but everything else still smells right.

Their bed is there.

Their favourite hiding place is there.

Their usual garden is there.

Their food arrives in the same place.

Their strange little household rituals can continue uninterrupted. 😂

For confident animals, a change of environment might be an adventure.

For anxious, older, territorial or routine-dependent pets, it can be another layer of stress on top of their person already being gone.

In-home pet sitting isn't right for every animal.

But for the ones who thrive on familiarity, sometimes the kindest thing we can do is change as little as possible. 🐾❤️

One of my favourite moments during a pet sit isn't when an animal lets me pet them.

It's when they choose me.

The nervous dog who eventually lies beside me.

The cat who has spent two days observing me from a safe distance and suddenly decides my lap is acceptable.

The anxious pet who finally sleeps properly instead of keeping one eye on everything I'm doing.

Those moments might look tiny.

They're not.

Because I didn't take that trust.

They gave it to me.

And when you're caring for an animal who can't understand why their person has left or exactly when they're coming back, that's something I never take for granted. ❤️🐾

The photos from a pet sit usually look like this:

🐾 Sleeping animals
🐾 Happy faces
🐾 Walks
🐾 Cuddles
🐾 Someone looking suspiciously comfortable without their parents

What you don't see is everything happening around those photos.

Checking doors and gates.

Meals and medication.

Cleaning bowls.

Walks.

Cleaning up the inevitable messes.

Watching behaviour.

Keeping routines.

Sending updates.

And repeatedly counting animals because apparently I don't trust the number I got 30 seconds ago. 😂

The cuddles are absolutely one of the perks.

But good pet sitting is mostly made up of hundreds of tiny responsibilities done consistently when nobody is watching.

That's the part of this work I'm proud of. ❤️

When a pet needs medication, “just give them their tablet” isn't really enough information.

I want to know:

When do they normally take it?

With food or separately?

How does their owner usually give it?

Do they take it happily—or have they already earned a PhD in detecting medication hidden inside food? 😂

What behaviour or symptoms should I be watching for?

And what does their owner want me to do if something doesn't seem right?

For pets with medical needs, consistency matters.

It's one of the reasons I ask so many questions before a sit. I would much rather have too much information about an animal's normal routine than discover something important after their person has already left.

Their care shouldn't become less precise simply because their owner is away. 🐾

You made me a better person
