🆘 🆘 Critical… please friends, asseblief vriende. There is R1131 in the NPC account from which I have to buy food and pay wages. I will send for a 10kg Ideal at R499 tomorrow. I am doing everything humanly possible to stretch food, mixing rice and carrots with small amounts of boiled chicken, mixing in pouches with kibble that had been donated by Absolute Pets.

There is a wonderful lady who quietly pays our R1,600 monthly mortgage and often sends food or additional funds for expenses. Alongside her are Sue, Kayleen, Paul, Chantelle Grabouw, N du Toit, KathyB, Zita, Monique, G&L, Roelien, Trina, Marietjie, Naomi, Maniki worker, Connie, Christa, Karen’s Cats and Elmarie. They may never fully realise what their consistent support means. During months when donations are scarce and the future feels uncertain, they are the reason the doors stay open, the food bowls stay full and the cats remain safe. Animal welfare work can feel overwhelming at times, but these are the people who remind me that kindness still exists. From all my kitty heart chambers, thank you.”

Dear friends, non friends, followers 💝😇

I have been sitting with this reality for a while now, trying to find the right words.

Donations to The Cat House are currently the lowest they have ever been.

I understand that times are tough. I know many people are struggling with rising costs and financial pressure. This is not a post written in anger or blame.

But I have to ask a difficult question:

Can a shelter survive on the support of only three or four regular donors?

The answer is no.

Every day there are hungry mouths to feed, sick cats needing treatment, bedding to replace, supplies to buy, and emergencies that never seem to wait for a better time. The cats still need care whether donations come in or not.

The heartbreaking reality is that without broader support, choices will eventually have to be made that no animal lover ever wants to make.

If you have been thinking of helping, please consider making a donation today, no matter how small. If you cannot donate, please share this post. Sometimes a single share reaches the one person who can make all the difference.

The Cat House exists because people care. Right now, we need that care more than ever.

They caught me off guard, 😮still in Zi’s robe and syringe feeding Luna who isn’t well. But, they were okay with that. They always are no matter the state of me. And that is what I love about them. So non judgmental and understanding. 🌸

🐾❄️ WINTER AT THE CAT HOUSE ❄️🐾

Many people think that the biggest challenge at a cat shelter is food.

Food is certainly important, but winter brings a whole new set of challenges that most people never see.

As temperatures drop, we begin seeing more respiratory infections, more runny noses, more dental problems, and more vulnerable cats needing extra care. A simple sniffle can quickly become a serious infection if it isn’t treated in time.

Winter means:

🐾 More veterinary visits

🐾 More medication and antibiotics

🐾 More fuel costs travelling to town for supplies and veterinary care

🐾 More litter usage as cats spend more time sheltered

🐾 More bedding to keep everyone warm and dry

🐾 More support for elderly, injured, and medically fragile cats

What many people don’t realize is that rescue work is a constant balancing act between food, medication, utilities, litter, fuel, and emergency veterinary expenses.

At the moment, our available funds are extremely limited. We currently have only R447 available in our NPC account. That small amount must remain available for emergencies, whether it is an urgent vet visit or fuel for the 80km round trip to town.

Every rand donated is carefully stretched to cover the needs of the cats in our care.

When you donate to The Cat House, you are helping provide essential medical care, transport to veterinary treatment, warmth and comfort during the cold months, and emergency support when a cat has nowhere else to turn.
