Meet Luna 🦊 A gorgeous Fox Terrier enjoying her very first professional hand strip, and what a difference it made!

Hand stripping helps maintain the correct texture and colour of a wire coat while keeping shedding to a minimum. Most importantly, Luna had a calm, gentle experience every step of the way.

At The Gentle Groomer, every dog receives:
🐾 One-on-one grooming
🐾 A calm, stress-free environment
🐾 Gentle, personalised care
🐾 Plenty of patience and love

Looking for gentle dog grooming in Table View, Cape Town? I’d love to welcome your pup 💛

Meet Max 🐾

Max is one of the more challenging dogs I’ve worked with and grooming isn’t something he finds easy. Rather than forcing him through a groom that causes stress and triggers, I’m taking a different approach.

Moving forward, I’ll be developing a style that suits him, one that prioritises his comfort, builds trust and creates positive experiences. The goal is to strengthen our relationship, help him unlearn some of his biting behaviours and show him that grooming can be a safe and positive process.

Sometimes progress doesn’t look like a perfect haircut. Sometimes it looks like patience, small wins and meeting a dog where they’re at.

I’d much rather work with Max than against him 💛

✨ Who I’m for as a groomer ✨

🐾 Anxious dogs who need patience and understanding
🐾 Senior dogs who deserve extra care and comfort
🐾 Reactive dogs who need someone willing to work at their pace
🐾 Large breeds that many groomers shy away from
🐾 Puppies starting their grooming journey early
🐾 Dogs who genuinely enjoy their spa days
🐾 Pet parents committed to regular grooming and their dog’s wellbeing
🐾 Dogs and pet parents in and around the Table View area in Cape Town

✨ Who I’m not for ✨

❌ Owners who only book once their dog is severely matted
❌ Those expecting months of neglect to be fixed in one appointment
❌ People searching for the cheapest option rather than quality care
❌ Owners wanting breed-standard results without coat maintenance at home
❌ Those who ignore professional advice and blame the groomer for the outcome
❌ People who don’t respect appointment times, policies or the work involved
❌ Those who prioritise convenience over their dog’s welfare
❌ Owners who become upset when a humane shave-down is necessary
❌ Those unwilling to commit to a regular schedule for high-maintenance coats

At the end of the day, my goal isn’t just a beautiful groom, it’s a happy, healthy dog 🐶

Grooming works best when groomer and owner are a team 💛

All dog owners should know these 3 things...
ESPECIALLY if your dog gets nervous, stressed or reactive at the groomer.

Grooming anxiety isn’t “bad behaviour.” It’s communication. And most of the time, it builds slowly over experiences owners don’t realise are affecting their dog.

Here are three things that can completely change how your dog experiences grooming:

1. Early experiences shape lifelong grooming behaviour

A dog’s first few grooming experiences are critical.
If they are rushed, restrained too tightly or exposed to overwhelming sounds/smells before they are ready, their nervous system starts associating grooming with danger.

Even one bad experience can create long-term fear responses like shaking, hiding, growling or shutdown behaviour.

Gentle, slow introductions matter far more than most people realise.

2. “Good behaviour” can actually be a stress response

Not all calm dogs are comfortable dogs.

Some dogs freeze, go still or become quiet during grooming, but internally they are overwhelmed. This is called a “shutdown” response and is often misunderstood as the dog being well-behaved.

These dogs may later become reactive because their stress was never properly recognised or released.

Understanding subtle stress signals (lip licking, wide eyes, panting, trembling, avoidance) is key.

3. Trust with the groomer is more important than speed

A rushed groom might look efficient, but it can break trust for sensitive dogs.

Dogs need consistency, patience and predictability to feel safe. Groomers who prioritise calm handling, breaks when needed and gentle introduction to tools create dogs who actually learn to relax over time.

Trust is what turns grooming from a fearful experience into a manageable routine.

If your dog struggles with grooming anxiety, you are not alone and it can improve with the right approach 💛

I can help your dog with one-on-one, gentle grooming if you are based in and around Table View, Cape Town.

Not every husky is born to love the brush 🐺

Luna is a long-haired fluff machine who says no thanks to at-home brushing… but surprisingly enjoys her bath. While she’s not a fan of the comb, she actually relaxes during her scrub with the deshedding shampoo, no screaming her lungs out like the classic husky stereotype 😅

There are a few stress shakes, some vocal opinions (mostly about the brush), and yes, I work slowly, at her pace. No force, just patience and trust-building.

A little restraint helps keep things safe without overwhelming her, and even though she can get a bit snappy, I’m glad I can manage her without a muzzle, just calm handling and respect for her boundaries.

Regular grooming makes all the difference for dogs like Luna. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s comfort.

And yes… a well-timed bribe goes a long way 🦴✨

This is a hand-stripping transformation that does more than change a coat, it brings out the structure, texture and true character of the dog beneath the fluff.

Carefully removing the soft puppy coat allows the new, harsher adult coat to grow through properly, keeping him looking neat, healthy and breed-true.

It’s patient work, gentle handling and a process that honours the dog at every stage 💛

Joey visits every second Monday, and it shows 🐾

For anxious dogs, regular grooming isn’t just about looking good, it’s about building trust. When dogs know what to expect, grooming becomes more predictable, less stressful and much safer for everyone involved.

Over time, Joey has learned the routine, from ear cleaning to nail trims and drying his face (which is a 5 minute towel dry because he hates hot air on his face 😂). Even when he’s feeling nervous, he can settle because he knows he’s in a familiar environment with someone he trusts.

Consistent grooming appointments also help prevent painful knots, matting and discomfort, making each visit a positive experience rather than an overwhelming one.

The goal isn’t just a beautiful groom, it’s helping every dog feel safe, comfortable, and confident throughout the process 💛
