You know the saying - Birds of a feather....

When friends have the same mindset about animal welfare, then lives are changed 😍

So when Des drove past a herdsman with his two pups, obviously she stopped for a chat. Numbers were exchanged and adress provided 😬 This morning we paid a visit 🫶

Bruno and Tiger are well taken care of within his means but a little help is needed 🙏
During their initial conversation she mentioned sterilization.... No hesitation, not a maybe, just a plea and gratitude for any assistance in this regard. Not only are they brother and sister but he doesn't want more responsibility or mouths to feed than he can handle 😘

The pair needs a bigger kennel and we will make this happen. We gave some extra food, deworming and a comforter blanket for soft sleeps 🥱

We also said hello to the big fluffies with horns, one magogo is already 12 years old and mother/gran to most of the others 😬

One person cared to stop, engage and be the difference for these doggies 😊

Today we spent a few hours searching for the remaining dogs living in ex-Plastic City/Weltevreden landfill 👀

Although we didn't see them, we now know the predominant area they spent time in, possibly sleep as well. The area they move in is vast, stretching all the way from the memorial site across the road right into the landfill, up to Anzac circle and the back of The Rock Raceway.

There are pups as well, likely around 4 to 6 months old based on descriptions and footprints, born and surviving in the bushes, away from humans, probably entirely feral 😥

We can set up the trap repeatedly but require someone to have eyes on it all times to avoid theft of it and not leave captured dogs inside for extended periods... Challenging but not impossible 🤞

Our precious girl is loving life and sunshine ☀️
She thoroughly enjoys basking in the sunlight and enjoys every moment of her life ❤️

Sally has settled in so well like she's just always been part of the family and her life before never existed 😘

Here kitty kitty, it's steri time 😻

Collected all the kitties for sterilization tomorrow 🎉 Lion, Kitty, Chloe, Patches and Spook receiving their meals for tonight, thank you Green House Pets Brakpan for sponsoring a yummy bag of cat food to add to their sachets 🥰

Some of the girls have already had kittens before but luckily, never again 🙏
We are tremendously grateful for steri sponsorship from angels to help these cats live better, healthier lives and to the Boksburg SPCA Charity Shop veterinary team for assisting with the procedures.

The last kitten and adult ferals were also trapped late yesterday afternoon and no more kitties remain, all safe and sound 🐈‍⬛🐈

Removing a feral colony creates a vaccuum for new kitties to come into the existing space, ideally TNR is favorable to maintain numbers.

Unfortunately the ferals here got out of hand (we trapped another 9 kittens today, totalling 15 in two days) and soon these babies would start breeding too 😿 Most of the residents in the complex are not happy to have them around and threats to harm them were rumored so TNR is not an option.

We rather assisted by removing them for their own safety. We don't usually do feral trapping but when animals need help, we try our best.

Trapped 8 feral kitties within an hour, took Bella for a check-up and trapping dogs, just a casual afternoon 🫣

We also received a call earlier the afternoon to assist a doggie in Brakpan North roaming, one message to Gibson Shaun and he also went straight from work to assist and was successful in trapping her 💪 Well done on your solo mission 😘

An eventful day but well worth it to help animals in need 🥰

Whoop there 'she' is... 🎉

Watching patiently as she circled the trap, going in and out a little more at a time and finally she went in all the way 😍

Unfortunately not our Blackie or Brownie we were hoping for but a female, safe and sound from living amongst trash, scrounging for her next meal or looking for a warm place to curl up against the cold 🤗
