Little Snowflake wishes you a good weekend!

Remember Pêrel's little baby we posted a while back, asking for name suggestions? The cutie pie is now 9 weeks old! Time flies. We think Snowflake is leaning pullet, but we typically s*x at 3-4 months so... Let's give it some more time. :)

A quick peek at our Polish bantams. They're the (rare) chamois variety and most of our hens have funky frizzle feathers. The frizzle gene makes the feathers curl outward, instead of laying flat.

It's a match! 😍 Amber & Miso have been paired up to bless us with chicks this season. They should be something really special! Amber is one of our OG buff Silkie hens, and Miso our favourite boy from last season. Can't. Wait. (Of course Miso will have other buff hens to court, too.)

Uhoh! It's broody season! 😆

I gathered my absolute favourite eggs for the incubator, and wanted to show them up close! Rich chocolate Marans, vibrant Olive & Easter Egger, and soft bloomy Barnevelder eggs. The Marans and Egger eggs are fertilised by our Dongxiang rooster (blue egg genes). This is going to be a special hatch.

We're proud to share the first Barnevelder chicks of the season! Colourful eggs are nice, buuuuut... if we could choose only one large chicken breed to keep... it would be "Barnies"! Here is why they hold a special place on our farm:

✨ Striking lacing pattern on their feathers
✨ Excellent layers of tan, brown and PINK eggs
✨ Good broodies & caring mothers
✨ Laid back, no drama
✨ Dual-purpose for us homesteaders
✨ Dutch heritage (Noëlle is from the Netherlands)

They're not easy to find, and Christo drove very far at the time to get our first... and we'd do it all over again. 💛 We can't wait to see the next generation grow up this season.

Watch our chicks discover mealworms for the first time! 🪱 These Marans and Easter Eggers are ready for their new homes.
