Spring is usually Windy Season, with a shorter “mini” windy season in the fall. So we’re used to pretty blustery and often dusty days! This most recent system hit pretty hard though. The place we visit for u-pick cherries lost a cherry tree that was planted in 1945. Some friends of ours had all three trees in their front yard blow down. A local horse rescue lost the roof off their chicken coop. Some people called it an early weekend because the drive to work/school was too risky. It sure was a doozy!

Our little farmstead withstood the storm fairly well. Roofs intact, trees standing, and minimal plant casualties. The pumpkin growing so nicely on the trellis looks pretty beat up, and we lost a chunk of our pecan harvest, but very grateful it wasn’t worse 🙏

Cool. 10:24 and Power’s back. For now…
We’re definitely losing pecans though.

After a couple of weeks of beautiful fall weather, we have our first major autumn blast moving in this evening. So, we turned our attention today to what needed tending to in the garden and around the farmstead:

🌱 Basil was cut and then made into pesto
🌻 Flowers were cut for a nice tabletop display
🌿 Tulsi was cut, washed, and hung to dry
🍅 Ripe tomatoes were pulled off the vine
🍃 Mullein leaves were cut and set in the dehydrator
🐷 Pig pen was mucked
💦 Irrigation hoses inspected and stored until next season

All in all a very productive day.
