Petals Friends A very warm welcome to Petal’s Friends.

14/05/2026

I have 5 cats booked for next week again and no deposits made to secure - after gentle reminders.

These will all be cancelled tomorrow.

Unfortunately I cannot keep having cats not show up at the vets - it’s unfair on other people wanting to book.

If people don’t reply to my messages , then the chance of them showing up at the vets is pretty slim.

Please don’t ask for help - and then ignore me.

One cat booked from the 30th of April - at owners request.

I spend so much time on the phone to the vets organising to try and help and it causes me nothing but stress.

To those I have yet to book - I apologise and will be in touch tomorrow.

The service used to be free for any requests I had - but sadly it’s just abused.

Thank you.

** Thank you so much to Raheema and her husband who collected this poor boy - he will be taken to Willows to be scanned and usually held for 7 days **

Is anyone able to collect a deceased cat from Ronald Road Small Heath / Bordsley please

He’s been killed by a car and needs taking to a vet.

Please message the page for more details if you can help - thank you 🥺

This little girl went to the vets tonight to have an urgent spay tomorrow as she is pregnant. ( and possibly by her dad )

A very kind family have taken her and her 4 siblings in -

They were relying on help from another rescue but they stopped responding -

And it would be unethical to allow more being born when I’m daily unable to help kittens already born.

It’s the worst situation to be put in - but tell me the choices 🥺.

Leave her to birth - and if complications then what ….

The lady isn’t sure exactly how far gone she is - but this situation is unavoidable because someone decided not to Neuter their cats - and the problem has now been put on this lady.

We have 4 more from the same family booked in next week - and I’m begging for help with transport if anyone is able to help ?

B37 - Colebrook in Shirley.

If anyone knows of any rescue spaces in the meantime - please send me a message - as with this colony , and the others living outside I’m trying to assist with - I’ve ran out of options, spaces and everything else in between.

The appointment is for next week 19th and will need to be dropped at the vets around 8.30 am 🙏

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated x

3 cats Neutered today under Petals 👏 Thank you to Colebrook for fitting the extra one in last minute 👍

Rabina Malik Maqsood - I’ve tried to reply to your message - twice today

The number you’ve left is wrong and it won’t allow me to message you.

Just don’t want you to think I’ve ignored you.

Massive thank you to Sarah for doing a mammoth transport run and the fabulous rescue who supported us with space.

We had been offered a space from one of our rescue friends for a mom and kittens - however on the photo I was sent - a male was also present - so the rescue very kindly offered him a space too, infact they offered me 2 male spaces 🥳🥳 this saved the male being neutered and returned.

However upon arrival things unravelled and the issue is a lot bigger than we had accounted for.

Had we have known we would’ve done things in a slightly different order.

However - Sarah only had a certain timeframe to meet the rescue and get back for her children’s school - all things that people forget.

We are however going to be neutering the remaining cats and the rescue will also help by taking some too all being well.

The other tabby male was from elsewhere - and had been roaming a few weeks when a lovely couple who adopted off me asked for help - he was able to have the 2nd male space 🙏

I keep saying no more transport runs - but honestly sometimes if we don’t - the cats simply won’t be helped.

Everyone knows someone who can drive - the organising, expectations and pressure we are under is phenomenal and is putting so much on us - that it starts to affect the help we offer as nothing is ever enough.

If you feed a cat - please please don’t keep
watching till they are injured or pregnant - if you ask for help it’s imperative you explain the whole situation to avoid us going round in circles and stop the colony growing.

Please don’t watch and wait. 🥺

These two cats were neutered this week.

The boy is from a garden of 9 where a very kind member of public , doesn’t drive , but has bought a trap and taking these cats in one by one to be neutered - to prevent the colony growing.

If anyone can help with transport from Hockely to one of our vet practices - mainly Halesowen please message the page as the lady is paying for taxis.

The second cat was being given away on a free add page - when the lady arrived to fetch her - she’d got 8 week old kittens they were selling - we did our upmost to get the kittens - including offering free neuter for the male they were keeping, taking the whole family.

But they were adamant they were sorting him - and no matter what I said they had an answer for.

The issue in this situation is the lady was on her own in a house with undesirables arguing over kittens -

I advised her to leave with the mother - as there was no way they were handing over the kittens - or dad to be neutered.

As sad as this is - we just have to hope that whoever buys the kittens does the right thing by them. Dad’s life will be pretty miserable - but it just wasn’t safe for the lady to be arguing inside their house.

Mommy is doing well after her ordeal. And despite everything if she wasn’t spotted on the free add page she would be pregnant again no doubt.

Just what we needed 🙏💯Thank you so so much Hectors House for donating us two traps - these will be put to very good use ...

Just what we needed 🙏💯

Thank you so so much Hectors House for donating us two traps - these will be put to very good use - starting this weekend 🙏

Asking for a friend - do you take every cat we trap?? - is that the deal?? 😉🤣

Honestly I’m very very grateful 🥰

I’m sorry to those of you who are reading all my current rants - it’s like my page is so negative right now.

But honestly like all my kind hearted rescue pals and supporters out there - we really can’t do anymore than we are.

There are so many rescues - thousands infact - check out the reviews - arrange a visit - and if you are happy and content by all means take the offer of a space.

Those rescues who want to stock pile moms who ‘ might ‘ be pregnant - or are on a ‘ wait and see ‘ programme - they are not rescues - they are hoarders

Nobody unless they had 48 hrs in a day can possibly manage to care for 100 cats in a house. Without risk of infection and disease - Avoid

Those who will take the kittens - not so bothered about mom - mom is the most important one here !!!! - avoid

Those who take the kittens - leave dad - leave older siblings - come to pick what they want with zero intention of returning - avoid

I 100 % understand that we can’t take everyone there and then - I 100% know when you go for 1 cat , there is 10 … people keep a kitten back , lie , etc I get that too - however a decent rescue will make a plan with you , to perhaps not take all the cats - but they will absolutely arrange a trap and neutering for the cats they are unable to take.

Any rescue who doesn’t offer to fix the whole issue - avoid

Any rescue you see taking and commenting on every kitten post ‘ we can take - do your research -

I’ve helped people who have taken cats to a rescue and not left them there - because of the amount of crates stacked up !

Don’t be shy to do this - if you aren’t happy or comfortable.

Yes - of course rescues use crates for emergencies , ferals , moms and new borns - but NOT long term.

Rescues do physical home checks for fosters - foster cats DO NOT MIX with resident cats - a mommy cat and new borns is not going to appreciate a dog yapping , or a todler in and out , or a big male Tom smooching around. - this is only heading for disaster.

Rescues only home where current pets are neutered and chipped.

Rescues neuter before they home kittens - however some rescues will chip the kittens , and won’t release the chip until the cat is neutered. - ‘

Those who home kittens without a chip as bare minimum are not in this for the love or passion.

Remember some of us have been around years - we haven’t just popped up out the blue - it’s taken years to build our contacts - years to get our supporters - years to gain trust of other rescues - helped cats way before we opened our pages.

We have heard every single trick , we have heard every single excuse , and more.

We’ve seen every ‘ removed comment ‘ where folk have tried to belittle us, those who are ‘ entitled ‘ but yet , weren’t so entitled when they were flogging kittens for £80 a month before - we know the mom wasn’t a stray , we know all of this -

However , we will respect and be willing to help when we are shown a bit of courtesy in between.

Please don’t wait weeks to look for the owner of a cat who is clearly in discomfort or injured - take them to a vet - some vets are incredibly kind to injured cats brought in. ( I know not all will or can take - but those who can go above and beyond ) and yes some also won’t help - but don’t tar them all with the same brush.

Don’t say - you’ve tried everywhere and nobody wants to help !! - remember we are human , we have jobs, families, responsibilities - we simply cannot take every request - however don’t stop - keep
trying and eventually you will find that someone who does have space.

Don’t leave it months to act - if a cat rocks up and won’t go - and there is no chip and they aren’t neutered - do a fundraiser , go on cat chat , do a neighbour collection - helping one cat is a much more easier task than helping a colony of 30 because you left it.

I don’t expect people to keep a big massive spraying tom in their bedroom -

However a garage, a covered crate , a shed is perfect - most vets will neuter a Tom especially within a day or two.

For those difficult cats - rescues have traps but we need feeders to work with us - if we ask you don’t feed in order to
Trap - that’s not cruel - what is cruel is you feeding them to prevent them being trapped and neutered.

If there is no holding space - it’s still better for a cat to be neutered than not - so those who think you need to hold a cat for 2 weeks post neuter - in an ideal world yes - but we aren’t in an ideal world - and as I say to so many people - you can only do your best with what we have. - please please don’t put off neutering.

I’ve met some amazing people along my journey - and some - whom I never want to hear of again.

To those truly wonderful humans who go above and beyond - who don’t drive - but get a taxi - who have never trapped before - but happy to try - to those who donate - share - care - THANK YOU

I’m going to just leave you with this - I was approached ( not on my page ) by a family I’ve helped endlessly over the years last week - I bite my tongue to help the cats - every ‘ male ‘ kitten they have had - I’ve neutered , every Tom who’s hung around - I’ve neutered or taken , every pregnant cat they asked me about I’ve sorted , a colony of 17 they asked me about I sorted.

I’ve never asked them to help transport, fund or support - because there’s just no point -

Anyway - they have a new kitten - Jo can you help we have 5/6 males in the garden after her but she’s not been out , she’s in heat.

So knowing in my head this is an emergency - if that cat gets out - and NOT MATED - they won’t allow her to be spayed. - because she ‘ MIGHT BE ‘

- a female may not get pregnant if she goes out - however - there’s also a chance she will !! - so a sensible , educated person would think - right I’ll take Joanne’s offer and get her spayed now.

But no - he arsed around and has decided that actually three days ago she got out ( so if she didn’t catch 3 days ago - she will 100% get out again and catch ) so he ‘ best not ‘ spay her incase she’s pregnant !!!

3 days - Is NOT A PREGNANT CAT - a Vet wouldn’t even be able to notice at this stage.

Cats have litterally zero hope with people of this mentality.
That cat will never be spayed - because she will always ‘ be pregnant ‘

You are not going to hell for neutering a cat , you are not harming your cat - you are neutering them for a better quality of life.

However what you are doing is shortening their life , adding to the thousands and thousands of cats with no homes - and you are basically laughing in the face of rescues and every single cat roaming the streets with no home because they are lost.

So for that - I hope you feel so important that you have made such a wonderful life choice !!
