Are you a horse person local to Barboursville, VA interested in giving back to the community? We are looking for volunteers to help with our trauma informed horsemanship classes starting in 2021. January and February 2021 will see the introduction of Monday and Wednesday evening groups
We are looking for volunteers for our therapeutic horsemanship classes who are already familiar with and comfortable working with horses on the ground. Volunteers are subject to a background check. We ask volunteers to commit to a volunteer training session (offered monthly) plus 90min-2 hrs one evening per week for a one month session to offer consistency to our students (lessons are approx 75 minutes each and usually run the first 3 weeks of the month with the 4th reserved as a makeup day).
We serve individuals with cognitive, psychosocial and physical disabilities in central Virginia and classes are taught by Jenni Johnson, our therapeutic riding instructor certified through PATH International. All horsemanship lessons planned for early 2021 are taught unmounted and incorporate grounding and resilience skills. These classes benefit students and volunteers alike in these difficult times.
Our lessons are taught outdoors and in our large open and airy barn. All participants are required to follow our covid safety protocols which includes mandatory mask wearing
