We would like to welcome Raven's Wing XX to Borderview.
She is by Denman x Viscount x Sir Tristram and descends from the famous Thoroughbred mare family 9-C, tail female to Sun Princess, grand daughter of Mumtaz Mahal (as do Viscount and Octagonal) .
She also has Persian Gulf xx in her bottom pedigree corner the half brother to Precipitation, sire of Furioso.

We have a very interesting mating in mind for this girl, anyone have any guesses??

The first of our Thoroughbred mares due this year is La Maestra XX. She is from the prolific female family of Special XX.

We have chosen the Warmblood stallion Surprice for her. He is by Sir Donnerhall out of a Prince Thatch xx mare. While he may not seem like a jumping bred horse, the Sandro Hit line is actually full of jump breeding with Sandro on the sireline being a Holsteiner, Sandro Hit's damsire Ramino being by Ramiro Z, and Sir Donnerhall's grand-dam Contenance II being Holsteiner as well.

Prince Thatch's sire Thatch is a full brother to Special xx, so also from the same damline as La Maestra. We are really loving this pedigree and have very high hopes for the result!

Surprise had a half brother that competed to 3* and his second dam Waldfee produced a Grand Prix dressage horse as well as a 1.50m and 1.60m show jumpers. All around athletic talent in this mare family!

Surprice has also produced a successful 3* eventer in NZ out of a Thoroughbred mare.

What a fantastic horse, Humble Glory XX! We have studied the pedigrees of these top Thoroughbreds and hand selected a group of Australian Thoroughbred mares with similar bloodlines to enter into our Hanoverian program to breed eventing horses, hopefully to represent Australia one day! The most recent mare to join us, Dollars not Sense xx, is from the tail female line of Somethingroyal, dam of Secretariat and Sir Ga***rd (grandsire of Sir Tristam), who are both also found in her pedigree. Humble Glory has both of these Somethingroyal sons featured (in fact, four duplications!) They also have a common mare duplication of My Charmer, dam of Seattle Slew in Humble Glory and Lomond in Dollars not Sense. Now the tough choice of who to put her to!

An incredible XC performance from 17yo Vassily de Lassos and Andrew Hoy adding only a few time penalties at the World Championships. Vasilly is by Jaguar Mail and we are very excited to have a Jaguar Mail x XX due in a few months!

Did anyone else watch some of the XC? There were some lovely horses, which was your favourite??

With lots of new followers, let's start from the beginning about what exactly Grand Prix Pedigrees is about.

As horse breeders, we should be striving to breed better horses more consistently, and with more purpose.

Using the science behind genetics as well as studying pedigrees that have already produced success, we can incorporate pedigree theory and balanced breeding techniques into our programs. We will re-iterate that this is to work ALONGSIDE the basic principles of breeding for temperament, soundness, practical conformation and individual breeding goals.

Pedigrees are the only map of genetics that we have of our horses (at this stage). Genotype, of course, is what comes through when breeding - not phenotype, and not produced talent or movement. Using pedigrees to our advantage can upgrade breeding stock and produce better offspring.

So, where do you start? What questions can pedigrees help us answer?

We are thinking of doing an interactive challenge with mare owners over the next week, who would be interested?? It would follow the steps of starting off the process with a mare of your own, from looking at the pedigree to choosing an ideal pedigree mate. Let us know below and feel free to tag a friend.
