🐕💨 A lovely little reminder today about dog communication, body language, and the importance of dogs being able to understand each other.
Pip and Mori were enjoying a game of chase, but Mori had reached the point where he was finished playing while Pip was still keen to continue. If you watch closely, you’ll notice Mori repeatedly turning away and offering clear signals that he was no longer interested in the game. Pip eventually gave up trying to engage Mori and turned her attention to Lochie instead.
Lochie also wasn’t ready to play, but Pip didn’t immediately respond to his body language. Lochie was quick and clear in communicating that he wanted some space, and Pip responded appropriately. Notice how I also marked Pip’s shake off afterwards. This is an important piece of communication that is often missed, as dogs will frequently shake off after an interaction to release tension, reset themselves, and move on.
This is a fantastic example of why understanding canine body language is so important. Dogs are constantly communicating with one another through subtle signals, and when those signals are respected, interactions remain calm, safe, and positive. Watching videos like this helps us learn to recognise when a dog is inviting interaction, when they are asking for space, and how they naturally resolve social situations without conflict.
By understanding these behaviours, we can better support our own dogs, advocate for them when needed, and gain a deeper appreciation for the incredible way dogs communicate with each other. 🐾
