Lexi's rescue story began in 2022. We received a call from a worker out at ypg that a German Shepherd had been abandoned near a canal. I didn't know my way around ypg but my husband did so we both loaded up late at night got our gear and set out to rescue Lexi. Upon arrival our hearts broke there she was sitting perfectly right next to a half a bag of dog food a bowl and wearing a beautiful collar. At that very moment I realized just how unfair life is for dogs.
So I got out of the car and she didn't run off in fact she approached me and seemed rather friendly. Enticed her with a few bites of ham and as she got closer and was more trusting I made the mistake of grabbing her collar to guide her to the car she turned around and snapped and caught my finger leaving a nice scar to remember her by. But it was all my fault I know better than to do that I should have just had a slip lead ready but that's not the point.
So after attending to my finger my husband and the worker set out the trap and caught her within minutes. I walked over and told her you don't know it yet but we love you. And for the past few years we've done exactly that but lately with our current life changes it's become increasingly difficult to give Lexi the freedom she deserves out of her kennel because her prey drive is increasing and weve had some close calls with our other pets. We tried several times to find Lexie her forever home but for one reason or another it just didn't pan out. We kind of came to the conclusion that we were meant to keep her so we did and the last few years we've done our very best to provide her with a life that she deserves but lately that's become much more difficult and much more challenging for a variety of personal reasons that can be explained later.
My Hope with this post is that we can find Lexi's true forever family. To give you a little more information she is about 5 years old and is 100% housebroken and crate trained. She absolutely loves to do anything active like play ball or catch a frisbee. She is not a chewer of things that shouldn't be chewed she really does just love her toys. Her best home would be without small dogs or cats. Quite frankly the best home for Lexie would be where she could be the only pet and center of attention. It is possible with a slow introduction and some training she could get along with dogs her size. She is spayed and microchipped and will need an updated rabies vaccine which I can help with. Lexi will come with her favorite toys, her industrial kennel, and a bag of dog food to transition her if you so choose.
Lexi will not go to the first home that applies. This is not first come first serve. We are looking for a home that is active and is willing to put in the effort to play with Lexi daily and to treat her like a family member. We are looking for a home that has a decent size backyard with secure fencing and secure Gates. We like to ensure during the home check that there's no hidden animals that you think you are going to train her to like because I promise you she doesn't like your cat or your small dog. Most of all we hope that you will never give up on her, never leave or abandon her on purpose, and most of all we ask that if for any reason it doesn't work out that she be returned to us because we do love her and we want the very best stability for her until we can find her a true forever home.
