🐾 Big News: Ruby Whiskers is Launching a TNR Program! 🐾

Today our team headed out for our first TNR trapping effort of the season while we didn’t trap anyone today, every program starts somewhere—even though our program is new and slowly starting, we’re committed to helping the feral cats in communities one cat/colony at a time. 💙

Why TNR matters:
TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) is the most humane and effective way to manage feral cat populations. Cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, ear-tipped (a universal sign they’ve been fixed), and then returned to the area they call home. This prevents endless litters of kittens, improves the cats’ health, and helps stabilize colonies.

🐱 Our TNR service will be available soon!
We will be offering TNR for an $85 donation per cat, which includes:
• Spay or neuter surgery
• Rabies vaccination
• Ear tip for identification
• Bravecto treatment for fleas, ticks, and worms.

✨ What makes our program different?
We will physically come to your location and help trap the cats. Trapping can be intimidating and sometimes even scary for colony caretakers, and we want to make this process easier for anyone trying to help the cats in their community.

⚠️ Priority System
Because the need is so great, and we are starting off slowly, we will prioritize the most vulnerable cats first, including:
• Kittens
• Nursing moms
• Sick or injured cats
A waitlist has already been started.

🏡 Working Cat Program Coming Soon!
Some cats aren’t suited for indoor homes, but they still deserve safety and care. We will be placing unsocialized cats as working cats in barns, warehouses, farms, and businesses where they can live safely while providing natural rodent control.

🐾 Help us end the cycle for Al & Debbie’s cat colony! 🐾

Five years ago, Al and Debbie—both retired and living on a tight budget—reached out for help feeding their small cat colony living on their property. Since then, thanks to your support, we’ve kept those cats fed with donated “feral food.” Over the years, the colony has ebbed and flowed, as most do.

But today, they need our help more than ever. The colony has dwindled to just 6 cats/kittens—and this is our chance to break the cycle once and for all. With our brand new TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) program, we can give these cats the future they deserve: freedom from the burden of endless breeding.

But here’s the kicker—when volunteers Bree and Leah visited Al and Debbie to assess the situation, they discovered something rare. Because this couple spent so much time socializing with these cats since they were kittens, the colony is considered stray, not truly feral. This is a rare occurrence that the TNR team has only come across one other time. Because this couple cared so much, these cats now have the opportunity to live safely indoors with loving families. They will be TNed, not TNRed!

➡️ Feral: a cat who is innately fearful of people, survives on its own outdoors like any wild animal would, and does not allow to be touched by human hands.
➡️ Stray: a cat who is either friendly, shy, skittish, or scared—but allows to be touched or held by humans. These cats will just need an adjustment period living indoors.

✨ Our Goal: $2,000 ✨
That amount will cover:

✅ Al and Debbie’s TNR fee for each cat/kitten
✅ Spay/neuter surgeries
✅ Any urgent medical care
✅ Routine vetting
✅ Food and other supplies

Right now, our foster-based rescue is already supporting over 500 cats and dogs. We can’t do this alone—but with your help, we can change everything for Al and Debbie’s colony.

Local cats have become such a huge problem over the years 😿. The population has grown exponentially 📈, and there are very few programs to help keep the numbers down. We have started a TNR Community Cats page on Facebook 🐾 in hopes of bringing attention to the issue, gaining support, and hopefully recruiting more volunteers 🙌 to help us reduce the population.

Our Community Cats Outreach Program 🐱💙 is dedicated to improving the lives of outdoor cats through TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) 🪤✂️. By humanely trapping, spaying/neutering, vaccinating 💉, and returning cats to their colonies 🏡, we help reduce overpopulation while ensuring these cats can live healthier, safer lives 🌿.

We also work closely with community members 🤝 to provide education 📚, resources, and support for caring for feral and stray cats 🐾. Through outreach and collaboration, our goal is to create compassionate ❤️, sustainable 🌍 solutions for community cats while giving them the respect and care they deserve. 🐾✨

Casino Cats Relocation 2.0 🐾🎰
Our last two kitties trapped at the abandoned casino have officially found their forever home — and it’s the purrfect one! They’ll now be living their best barn-cat lives alongside kitty friends, goats, donkeys, and horses. 🐐🐴🐱

A huge thank you to Acquaviva Winery & Ristorante in Maple Park, IL, for opening your hearts (and barn doors!) to these sweet souls. Now they get to rest their heads exactly where they love to be… outside, safe, and free. ❤️
